Title: Ravenscraig Mental Hospital
Post by: DoireM on Thursday 24 April 25 16:29 BST (UK)
My late uncle died in Ravenscraig Mental Hospital.  I know it closed in 2005, where would I find his record in this facility?

Thank you.

The records are held by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

Unfortunately online access is not available and in addition the NHS has a very strict access policy. It may be best to consult an NHS Archivist possibly at the Watt Library in Greenock or the Mitchell in Glasgow.

Reading that, I'd guess it would be a long and complicated process and unless you fit the criteria stated its unlikely to be successful - especially if he died less than 100 years ago which is the usual minimum closure timeframe for personal records such as these

I'd try an email stating your relationship and the deceased's date of death to see IF it would be worth embarking on the journey

Many thanks for replying RJ and Boo.  I understand there is the 100 year rule.  He died 1955, so I will give it a go.  Thank you.
