I think the first letter of the name starts with 'C' - very simialr to the first letter in the name Christie above.

Cxx?lay

Conlay/Conley

or 'B'

Banley/Bamley  etc

C in Cardwell and Connolly is very different. G in Gourock is the same as Susan's maiden surname.
