Title: Deciphering Richard Hodson's Bride Surname

Richard Hodson married Anne something in 1632. I've attached two versions of the register to compare. I am confused with the first letter of her surname which looks like it could be a 'J' when compared with the 'J' in John in the record above hers. But to me it doesn't make sense. I would appreciate help with this problem from someone with more expertise than me please.

I agree could be first letter  'J' but the 2nd letter seems odd or one letter missing ----- 'Jttol' unless its a Latin surname  ???

I'd say Ittell. (Possible variant of Ithell?)

There's a Michael Ittall of York Castle, in 1642, here:

It is Ittell as has been said.  The explanation is simply that in 1632 the characters J and I were interchangeable.

Should it be of interest, I had a quick look through my documents and found a nice example of the interchangeable I and J.

cosin John Barrett...

This is from a registered will in Oxfordshire in 1649.
