Title: Henry White?
Post by: Shrop63 on Sunday 13 April 25 15:16 BST (UK)
Hi folks, I believe a distant relative was in service for a Henry White and his wife May in 1891. The address is given as Lower Sudley St Pendleton but I understand there are 2, one in Salford? Her name is Rebecca Carter. Thanks for any info, does the St still exist?

1891
137 Lower Sudley Road
Henry H White, wife may, two daughters.
Rebecca Carter, servant, single, 21, born Shropshire, Old Park

Ancestry has this as CP Pendleton, residence Pendleton, RD Salford, subRD Pendleton

CORRECTION: I believe that it is Seedley not Sudley, and it is still there.

View from the large-scale map ~1950s. Some houses are numbered so you can deduce where no. 137 was (and presumably is).

added: as far as I can see from street view that stretch of houses has gone, modern housing there.

He’s a 31 year old “Buyer of Cotton Goods”. She is the only servant, and the houses are large terraced, so not an opulent household.
