Title: Remarriage?
Post by: Shrop63 on Sunday 13 April 25 11:51 BST (UK)
Hi this is more of an opinion search more than anything else which is why I posted here. For several yrs I, ve been trying to find out what happened to Mary Ellis my GMX6. She married my GFX6 Thomas in 1786 in Wellington Shr. They had 2 children. Mary had sisters with unusual names like Seberiah, Meriah, Lifsey and Rachel. In 1793 Robert Carter married a Mary Ellis again in same parish, they named their children Seberiah etc, the marriage cert doesn't state she's a widow which is really frustrating. Is this Thomas, so wife? She was also at least 6yrs older than Robert and her sister Rachel married Roberts brother.

There won't be a marriage certificate back in 1793 but you might be able to find the banns relating to this marriage which might state their marital status - unless that is what you are meaning?

Could it be a different Mary Ellis as Thomas - what was his surname? - would need to have died.

Do you have a death for Thomas before the Robert Carter marriage?

Rosie99 You are almost certainly correct.  Mary Parton married Thomas Ellis - had 2 children - possibly only one - if the death for Thomas is Wellington,1792.  Mary (now) Ellis marries Robert Carter 1794 - possibly 6 children.  Mary, age 75 with her son Abraham in Wellington 1841. census.

Rosie you were still typing so we have overlapped. If Thomas died 1807, Mary did not presumably marry Robert in 1794 - but not impossible - separation (divorce).

There is a death I believe of a Thomas in 1788 b1762 which would be a perfect match but that would mean the Thomas b1792 would be of differ parents. There is also a marriage in 1793 for Thomas.and Mary!
