Title: Barnaby Bakers wife.
Post by: Marie Baker on Friday 11 April 25 23:37 BST (UK)
My husband's 4x Gt Grandmother Sarah Painter, was married to Barnaby Baker on 21 st February 1798 in Theydon Mount Essex. He was born 1775. They had at least 2children, Benjamin 1808 and Samuel 1811. Some trees suggest Sarah was born in Essex in 1781 ( Harlow or Little Baddow) but I have been unable to find her birth. Searched Essex Archives on line, and the usual genealogy sites.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sarah Baker's burial 1855 age 84  at Theydon Mount has abode Work House at Stanford Rivers.

She was probably in the hospital part due to her age, but try the Essex Record Office to see if they have records from the Work House.

1851 census although living with William she is listed as a Pauper. Look for Poor Law Records to see if
she was eligible for Parish Relief.

Don't know this will hold water but worth a look.
In 1781 there is a marriage of Thomas Painter to Ann James though at this point i can't find a baptism for James.

Thank you for your kind responses. I think Sarah Painters birth date and parentage will have to remain a brick wall mystery!

Do write to the Essex Record Office, they have always been very helpful when I had questions.

The Poor Law records and work house records of often have useful information.

Possible but not Essex.

SARAH Painter
Christening •

Parents BENJAMAN/SARAH

Maybe just a coincidence but Sarah names children Benjamin/Sarah.

Thank you Trish, it’s interesting, but on the 1951 census she gave her birthplace as Harlow, although there is no sign of her there on the Essex Archives online site. Another brick wall!
