Ethel was the daughter of Alfred William Jarvis Cazaly 1870-1946 and Rose Horteuse nee Howes 1876-1973. After a messy marriage Rose and her daughters emigrated to Canada.
Ethel married Frederick Stephen Townsend 27 Jan 1923 in Toronto and at 1931 they had 1 son, Bruce, and I guess a daughter from his 1st marriage. I know nothing of Frederick's birth or death, nor the son's details or if they had any more children? Also when did Ethel die?

Hi again
Frederick Stephen Townsend born 11 May 1882 London ,Brixton .
Son of Frederick and Mary Elizabeth Townsend nee Stephenson .His dad was a coach motor trimmer.
Fred was the eldest of 7 children.
Frederick arrived on the Alaunia at Portland Maine 6 Dec 1913.Heading for Aylmer Ontario. 5'ft 6 blue eyes brown hair.He was to be a farmer.
Joined up 27 .4.1915 into the Canadian Army .Now working as a printer his next of kin was his mother in Clapham.
Lots of tattoos ,both arms horseshoe ,girl crucifix ,heart on left and butterfly Crest RCD Bulldog and a flagged ship on right.
He married a Louisa Prout by 1920 when their daughter Louisa Edith Rita Townsend was born 2.6.1920. She must have died soon after as he and Louisa are alone oin the 1921 census. They say Fred is a widower and he and Louisa baptist but she was baptised catholic so presumably Louisa Prout was roman catholic.
That's all I can see.
Everything up to 1931 and nothing after.
Sorry

Here is the complete military record for Frederick, courtesy of Library and Archives Canada. It is quite lengthy and will be slow to load…
https://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?id=B9752-S015&app=PfFww&op=pdf
There is a death notation for Frederick on pg 64 of the military record that says 20-3-53. No other details are given.
FreeBMD has a marriage in Dec qtr 1917 in Wandsworth RD with Frederick S Townsend and Louise Prout as the only parties listed. There is a notation regarding permission to marry in Frederick’s military record.
Louisa Townsend died 26 June 1920 in Toronto, Ontario. Image available on ancestry if you have access and should also be available on familysearch (free). Her parents Robert Prout and Mary Congdon.

Thank you ciderdrinker and polar bear. Any sign of the death of Emma and whether there were any children other than Bruce born c1923?

A tree I saw on ancestry only has the 2 children posted as private, presumably the son and Frederick’s daughter with his first wife. As I’m sure you’re aware, Canada has strict privacy rules wrt BMDs. Birth dates for the two children are in the record of their 2025 baptism into the Catholic faith (image on ancestry) but there doesn’t appear to be a birth registration/cert for either child available.
Incidentally, a couple of months after the children were baptized, Frederick and Ethel were baptized at the same church as converts to the Catholic faith.
No sign of a death for Ethel at the moment. Perhaps someone will come along and look for a possible obit for Frederick given his death date appears to be known. That might give some more info.

Sandra, wrong Fred who died 1950 the probate record gives to Ethel Millicent Townsend widow, and, it seems unlikely that he died in the UK.

The probate names Ethel Millicent Townsend as his executor.
She may, or may not, be a beneficiary. Beneficiaries are named on the will.
