Title: Halloween / October celebrations in 1850s?

I'm just thinking about one of my illegitimate ancestors- I have a family I suspect when it comes to his father. One branch was in Seghill (where his mother would have been) and one potential candidate lived in Durham. Counting 9 months back from his birth in 1853 puts his conception (provided he was full term) at the end of October 1852. Sure, the Durham guy could just have been visiting family. Yes, the ones who lived there could have had a romance with her from meeting naturally. Given the timing though, I wondered how the Seghill area (presumably a mining community rather than farming driven? Both?) celebrated that period, particularly if it gives the Durham one a better excuse to come over, dance, eat, drink and be merry  ;D
