Morning folks, hope I have the date right
Yes, I am an early bird but having a can't sleep night once again, wish I knew why and I could do something about it.
Been a lovely few days but I haven't been out at all since Friday, I just have quite a bad cold and didn't want to share it, normally get one this time of the year except this one is much milder than usual, thank goodness.
Judging by the news the weather should be very good this week, apparently hottest march/April since 1910 I think the newscaster said, seems strange this time of the year.
Take care everyone

Morning LM.
Lovely sunny day yesterday but a hard frost last night. Suns out again this morning.
-
It does get cold at night, I was up between 12 and 2 and i felt cold when I went back to bed and tried to sleep.
Take care
LM
-
A glorious day here in Devon, though at some times there is a bit of a chill wind. I was moved to wash things like my dressing gown and the fluffy bathmat - both dry and back in place now.
We have just been to the surgery for our Covid jabs. The nurse apologised for the needles. "They're a bit blunt," she said, as she jabbed them in rather forcefully. :o
-
LM, is it definitely a cold and not hayfever? The reason I ask is that you said you usually have it at this time of year. I'm often affected in the spring by the tree pollens which have been particularly high this year. People can be affected by these although not by grass and flowers.
Very cold wind coming off the sea today but softened by glorious sunshine. :)
-
Roobarb
I have never suffered from hay-fever , there is always a first I suppose , am not sneezing, well not very much, if this us a cold and I usually get one around this time of year it is completely different, no sore and runny eyes either.
I am keeping away from people, our grandaughter was coming this evening , hopefully she will come towards the end of the week.
Over the last couple of weeks with this nice blowy weather I have got lots if washing done and things put away, I must have been a washer woman in my past life, I am always washing, if I lived in a retirement home I expect I would be restricted as to how many machine loads I was allowed
There is still a chill in the air.

i also woke earlyi seem to sleep in 2hour stints tben need toulet or simething to eat
the most important is tbe 10pm sleep. if i miss that or oart of it i dont feel i can catch up.
i do like being awake with the dawn chorus from the birds
-
LM, it's surprising how many people develop hayfever later in life, mine was dreadful in childhood, it made me thoroughly miserable but thank goodness I've grown out of it to a great extent. Although sneezing is a symptom not everyone has it, mine usually manifests itself these days as an awful cough. If you are able to take antihistamines it might be worth a try. Hope you're soon feeling better whatever the case.
I'll leave the dawn chorus to you Brigidmac, it's a bit early for me. ;D
Gillg, sounds like you'll have a sore arm tomorrow! But at least you got your jab. :)
-
If sneezing was an Olympic sport I could sneeze for England. I usually have a long bout of sneezing twice a day, mainly when I move to a cool room from a warm one or vice verse.
I tend to get hayfever from tree and grass pollen but not badly as a rule. I have suffered from post nasal drip for years until recently, even having by sinuses drained didn't help. Then a few months ago a nurse suggested I switched from dairy milk to oat milk, what a difference that has made I wish I had known years ago.
Tomorrow the nurse is coming to give me my Covid booster. Next week it will be my B12 jab. I can’t have them both in one arm and my right arm is still very bruised badly bruised and painful from the fracture that I had and that landed me in hospital for a month a few weeks ago. :-[
-
Interesting how some quite common conditions are late onset and others we grow out of, some of our family have had a few reactions that previously weren't an issue as though body decides it has had enough of something perhaps :) Mum when in her 50's was sent for an allergy test and found that milk was one reaction, her family had a dairy cow and always plenty of milk, she didn't need to cut it out altogether but it probably hadn't helped her bronchial asthma since childhood either. Also found out she was allergic to crayfish but had never tried it :D ... a few other things as well.
Hopefully you're free of the symptoms soon LM and all good following the jabs Gillg and Jebber.
Have that waking between REM cycles too more frequently lately brigidmac, have to train myself not to get up but it does usually work to climb back into bed quickly and back to sleep another cycle or two and a good 6 hours is OK for me most of the time. I don't have any urge to go to cupboards or fridge though in the night as have always given myself a cut off time for food for about 12-14 hours from early evening until breakfast ... with the odd exception perhaps if entertaining with company.
Have a good week all, noticing the days closing in more now clocks put back since weekend but at least summer wardrobe is still OK for a wee while hopefully ...
-
We are just about getting our summer clothes out, although we have had a few lovely days it is still a bit nippy yet you still see youngsters walking about what I call, half undressed, during the day it is really nice if you can find a spot that isn't windy .
I am sure I have a cold, has got worse when I thought after a few days it would be a better, but hey ho, it is only a cold and I should be OK by the weekend
I saw a hack about washing pillows, mine I can't dry clean, I tied the pillow in
3 places tightly, washed it like that, took it out of the machine, shook it and it came out fine, not like a ball and I have to throw it away, was quite pleased with the result, hung it out between 2 metal hangers pulled into a shame to sandwich the pillow between , hung it out and I was pleased with the result, will do another today, success.
Hope everyone is having a good few days weather-wise

Well a bright sunny morning abd what am I doing?
Sitting waiting for transport to Fairfield Hospital, for another Echo scan.
Wasn’t well yesterday teatime, so did not eat .
I get lots of indigestion and hard to tell if it is that, or my heart.
So did not eat my tea!
I had until recently to take Aspirin to thin my blood but now on Apixoban ,well if you think it could be a heart attack you take puffs if you’re GNT spray and four Aspirin.
The Aspirin I still have in stock are buffered, they just don’t dissolve in water so I bashed four in a pestle and mortar ,they then dissolved.
However I had a bath ,nightie on, ,all ready for ambulance if needed - ,however the pain subsided after trying Gaviscon, Heart Nurse said that might be a coincidence and not to think it is always indigestion! ???
I will mention it today at the scan.
Mornings are still so cold.
I wonder if I have Raynaud’s disease.
My middle finger on left hand has started to go white and cold,a bit numb too,
it passes off but comes back,,two days now.
Oh heck! That could mean more medication!
A small inconvenience really .
Must put my seedlings in the sunshine ,it is still frosty sometimes at night ,see it on the cars in the morning .
Dustbin lids won’t open.
Given some very challenging illnesses , many of you cope amazingly well .
It is very encouraging to read your posts.
Makes me pull myself up!
Well, no more real news so Cheerio for now, look after yourselves.
Viktoria.

sunny day here 14 degrees
im meeting an author friend for lunch in the village of Kibworth where my step neice manages a cafe which won best leicestershire cafe/restaurant .last week
-
That sounds a bit of a worry again for you Viktoria, do hope you're OK, thankfully in right place with visit for scan to discuss the issue ... and by accounts all beautifully prepared! :)
14 degrees here atm, overnight ,,,
-
Yes Viktoria, I to hope everything is OK today.
Are you sure you aren't overdoing it at home?
LM

I tend to get hayfever from tree and grass pollen but not badly as a rule. I have suffered from post nasal drip for years until recently, even having by sinuses drained didn't help. Then a few months ago a nurse suggested I switched from dairy milk to oat milk, what a difference that has made I wish I had known years ago.
The switch from dairy does seem to make a difference. As a baby my daughter suffered from infantile eczema which she grew out of gradually, but her hands were affected by eczema right into adulthood and she had to avoid putting them in water if she could. She heard that switching from cow's milk to oat milk might help and tried it, along with other plant milks (like almond) and was amazed and delighted to see her hands become smooth and free from the rough redness and soreness after suffering from this for over 40 years. Now she is very proud of her hands and enjoys wearing nail polish and showing off her rather pretty and slender hands.
-
That is really good,Gillig.
Well had echo scan ,no results yet,but had a wobbler whilst at the hospital, they took my blood pressure, that was fine.
I had just been given a cup of tea, and the -grey clouds started to descend -
I was in the wheelchair ready for the ambulance transport home.
But it has been noted .
I was asked if I would have another scan in a few weeks time, by the technician, she was taking her exams in a month and needed more patients ‘scans , I agreed as I have so much good care and also any changes will be known won’t they .
I feel perfectly O.K now.
Well some blossom on my apple trees, violets growing round them in their tubs .
Peony bush coming up again ,flowering currant gorgeous ,daffodils dancing no “ Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.” Sadly not “ continuous as the stars that shine and twinkle in the milky way ,”
I have a runny nose but thought it might be my eye drops, I might try oat milk ,it can be bought at Morrisons’s I think.
Is it O.K in tea and coffee.?
I have to watch how much cow’s milk I have as on a high dose of Vitamin D,
oat milk might be a good alternative .
Thanks.
A lovely day and after a cool start, a glorious afternoon when I got back from hospital.
Vacuumed the stairs and washed the stringers ,and wiped down the stairlift ,
I need to get some silicone - antistatic - polish to keep it clean , it attracts dust seemingly .
Well done all who are coping with very difficult health matters.
You are an encouragement .
Cheerio folks.
Viktoria.

Good morning all from outback South Australia!
Thankyou Louisa Maud for the pillow hint. I too have had difficulty washing them and they inevitably end up in the dog box.
Days are shortening now, very crisp in the mornings but beautiful afternoons. The next few days are predicted to climb to 30+ though. Quite unusual for April.
I went in for my flu shot this week and the doc decided to jab me for pneumonia in the other arm as well! So 2 sore shoulders for a couple of days.
The sunrise here is brilliant red and tangerine out of my window.
Must get moving soon, but it's so cuddly here in bed.
My daughter's old pony club horse will be waiting for her oldies tucker.
Take care all,
Chris
-
Done a second pillow today, seems to work quite well, the metal hangers have to be pulled down to make it longer so that the 2 hangers can go together to sandwich the pillow in, tie at bottom, you must get the pillow in the middle , I have metal pegs that you can also hang 2 hangers on with tops or shirts on, quite difficult to explain, then when dry I plump it up, was really worth a try.
Viktoria I can't believe you then ran around the house after your hospital visit, surely you needed to have a rest, you amaze me.
Sleep tight everyone, I don't sleep well any remedies?
LM
-
No obvious effects from the Covid booster so far Mare. I don't usually have any problems.
Interesting to hear of the experience of someone else switching from dairy milk Gillg
Sorry to hear you had another blip whilst at the hospital Viktoria. I hope they are able to sort your problems out soon. I can’t say what oat milk would be like in tea, I don’t drink tea having never liked it. My drink of choice since I was a teenager has been coffee and I always drink it black.
I have oat milk on cereal or drink it on it’s own either chilled or hot. I Keep meaning to try it in drinking chocolate but haven’t got around to it yet.
-
You were probably ready for a good sleep after an eventful big day followed by physical activity at home Viktoria and knowing blip was noted is good.
Thought last night should have been more active myself yesterday after being wakeful nodding off and too short a sleep, did have a walk in morning but then a day out and a bit of time on purchases for house and gifts with no rush :) ... that and a bit of temporary discomfort perhaps and the malfunction of the brain on/off switch :D
I have bought oatmilk to try fairly recently since living in new area and getting together with several neighbours regularly, some of who have intolerances, having to think up different ways to go about recipes etc. Lady across road is strictly gluten free and dairy can also be an issue though she doesn't make an issue of it and is happy to contribue what she is able to have. Another is celiac and then one who just doesn't like dairy. Just have small tetra pack now of oatmilk and one of almond milk to hand if needed. #1 sis had late onset reaction to oats, just as well I haven't as it's a daily staple for me with having my soaked overnight oats for breakfast with apple.
Daughter and her 2 youngest girls have had yucky few days one by one with a gastric bug, thankfully all a lot brighter today. Eldest had other grandparents pick her up from weekend camp and she and her dad stayed over there and no contact with youngest who had it first at the weekend, hopefully have that way avoided it!
Day closing in and time for evening meal soon ... :)
-
ive been dairy free for many years
at first the only alternative was soya and it does effect the taste of cereal, tea + coffee.
my solution was to change my favourites ...have a different cereal drink a coffee/ choc mix instead of hot choc or coffee.
almond milk is too strong for me .
oat milk is the most bland so easiest to change to.
recently tried pea milk.(not strong ) & hemp milk ( watery )
Viktoria take it easy sometimes.
Mare i can't train myself not to get up in the night ...i end up wetting myself !
its a problem at the moment because toilet is thru the bedroom where my friend is sleeping .
im on living room sofa so have to leave extra time for the bathroom sprint guided by the light on my mobile phone so i dont trip over anything .
-
Rather slowly retraining myself 'bm' on some newer more habitual things ;) ... do understand need and urgency a different matter entirely.
Last couple of days of school term and a two week break over Easter, noticed seniors of the high school across the park at end of our street haven't parked in our street this morning or yesterday, perhaps no school for them until after holidays :-\
added ... a few late arrivals now parked, they do seem to have their own schedule :) ... own road code too some of them :-X
-
Hope your family are now well L.M.
I understand bridgidmac , I am on Bumetanide ,fast acting ,one each
morning ,
But can’t do that if I have to travel etc.
I don’t feel generally ill, but do get tired and sometimes chest pains .
I take it easy really, one big job a day and that is it but I do cook a proper meal each evening except Thursdays when it is fish and chips.
It is an easy house especially as it is small and all modern ,what a difference to the ten roomed one I left so near a busy broad with an hour at least every evening of traffic stop - start with engines running which made everything very dirty.I could not manage that now.
There are some real Stoics among RootsChatters.
I think I might have Raynaud’s Disease——-my left middle finger goes white and numb, hours at a time ,generally I am very cold ,especially hands and feet.
Covid 11th and a phone call from GP on 14 th, and no treatment needed after the bone density scan .
Must pick up new specs next time I am down in Ramsbottom.
Look after yourself folks .
Viktoria.
-
Oh Viktoria, you do have a lot to cope with - and you do it so well.
I've had a busy week or two, got behind with diaries, had own Golden Wedding, very quiet, even older relatives unwell, lots of worrying 'phone calls, all sorts of silly things being a nuisance - but nothing compared to some people manage to cope with!
TY

Congratulations for your golden anniversary.

Baby Lily is coming on, dipping her fingers in her baby food and sucking them whilst mummy refills the spoon!
Six months or so now ,very sociable ,but goes to work with mummy ,at my daughter’s BMW retail outlet ,nursed by salesmen and mechanics and customers !
Hopefully I will see her soon.

Good morning all from outback South Australia!
...
I went in for my flu shot this week and the doc decided to jab me for pneumonia ...
Pneumonia jab!!
I have read a report from 2017 in the US National Library of Medicine of several reported cases in the past who have suffered pneumonia after vaccination.
I became interested, after my Mum was hospitalised about 8 years ago with pneumonia and Mum had had the Influenza vaccination (UK) every year, including that time.
----------
Of course, catching Influenza can be very serious too!
You take care, Mark
-
Congratulations on the big anniversary TY and Mr TY :)
-
Yes all take care ... we make these decisions with some caution/ correct information and understanding hopefully, lesser of two evils and all that as well I suppose and individual choices of course.
Happy weekend all ...
-
Glorious sunny day and the cars are pouring in to our nearby seaside town, where we did a bit of shopping this morning. Heaven knows where they are all going to park, but the shopkeepers are rubbing their hands with glee. The children are on holiday, of course, so the town is extra busy. Some people have got that holiday feeling and are wearing shorts and T-shirts or strappy summer dresses. I belong to the "Cast ne'er a clout till the may is out" group and am still dressing in warmer clothes. Back in the village with a new stack of library books I am planning to spend the afternoon either sitting out in the sun or sitting in a comfortable chair reading and preparing for singing in a concert tomorrow. Probably a bit of both.
This sunny weather really does lift the spirits with its bright light, especially as it has brought everything out into blossom. What a pity it is forecast to cool down and bring rain at the weekend!
-
My brother lives " down south" he complains bitterly about cars who just park up anywhere they like, on one occasion the police had to be called because a disabled driver had blocked off the bus lane, he says they park up and just leave the car for hours, one area the big guns get there with their huge motor homes picnic and stay there leaving rubbish when they go.
Not sat in the garden yet, still trying trying to get rid of this cold which is lasting far to long .
Enjoy the weather but Gillg, I belong to your brigade
LM

Just been inspecting my wisteria. It was pruned a couple of weeks ago, and the buds have increased in size so much every day, and now the colour is really beginning to show through. Hopefully everything will continue and I'll be able to look at my wonderful purple/mauve wall for some time.

the second sound in each pair being aspirated makes more powerful expletives in many languages
they also liked the childrens ditty
mums out. dads out lets talk rude
"be bo. belly .bum drawers "
i let on that i dont know what bebo is supposed to be .
i the evening i was very sleepy anf forgot that i had a zoom with a writers group
we re following a book / method which has a reputation of helping people overcome writers block .
its called " the artists way " by julia Cameron( or Campbell )
A smoke alarm in hallway floor above has been going off since 5.30 am !
i got up checked there was no actual smoke ...texted neighbours and made myself some hot soya + half a baked potato
theres no bread in the house
& the rice pudding i prepared last night wasnt cooked enough
will try to go back to sleep for an hour .
Viktoria stop chasing wasps they are vengeful creatures.
i dont remember what my beekeeper friend puts on stings its a cream + works immediately
last year a gang of wasps killed a lit of his bees
-
I think it's vinegar for wasp stings and bicarb of soda in a paste for bees. Some like to use honey, preferably Manuka honey for bee stings! Pull the sting out, if you can, and wash the wound. Use ice before treating.
Keep clear of wasps, as they can come back and sting repeatedly and bees can only sting once.
-
I was told "Winigar for Wasps" is the way to remember it.
TY
-
Yes,That is how I remember it T.Y.
In Victorian times,Dickens wrote about ,many characters use a W in place of a V,—- wery, wictuals.
I must say the ammonia really worked.
Victoria.
-
Dickens always amused me - except in "Pickwick Papers", which I found a real bore and letdown when I first - and last time - read it. Sam Weller was not my favourite character - or was Mr Pickwick himself, I may add.
