Title: Manchester Library - OPENSHAW St Barnabas Marriage 1920
Post by: StephenAndrews1963 on Wednesday 02 April 25 18:12 BST (UK)
Hi to the group, I am looking for the marriage of John Wilson to Beatrice Calvert which took place between July to September (3rd Quarter) of 1920 at St Barnabas's Church, Openshaw. I understand that the records are held at the Manchester Archives and also a copy at the Manchester Library. Can anyone help with this look-up please? Thanks in advance. Stephen Andrews

Can't see anything online so you may have to buy the cert.  A tree on Ancestry has parent details for Beatrice but not for John.

Is that what you are trying to establish?

Have you found them on the 1921 census which will give his birthplace?  If he was alive in 1939 the 1939 register will give his full birthdate

Yes, I am trying to ascertain his parentage, the birthdate ties in, his mother came from next door in Droylsden but unfortunately a couple of other records contradict each other. He served in the army but was actually born and mainly raised in Nottingham, although did briefly live in Droylsden. No worries, I'll send for the certificate. Many thanks, Stephen

The archives are at the library. You could contact there to see if there is a look up service.

Given his birthdate in 1939 he's more likely to be the June qtr 1899 birth Nottingham 7b 354 but if his parents rushed off & registered him quickly he could be the March qtr 1899 Basford

Can see your problem

Yes these are his parents. But I have seen conflicting information on other trees that I wish to discount, hence the request for their marriage info, thanks anyway.

Hi Stephen,

I came across your post as I am also interested in a marriage that took place at this church.  I’m hoping my son might go to the library to look it up for me or I may go myself next time I am over that way.

Do you still need a look-up or did you purchase the certificate in the end?

You’ll probably receive the certificate you ordered before we have chance to get to the library, hope it helps.

The marriage I am interested in is a bit of a long shot, decided to download a digital image of the bride’s death certificate in the meantime to see if there was anything useful on there but it’s not available as a digital image.  Sometimes everything seems to go against us! Ah well.
