Title: Abbreviation on baptism record

What would "Paup" mean as an abbreviation in relation to a baptism

Were it against a burial record  I'd assume pauper, but on a baptism in the parish register ?

It's also in clearly different handwriting, so maybe added later

The Stamp Duties Act 1783 applied to all baptism, marriage and burials. Paupers were exempt, so this would be noted on the parish register. Often clergy were opposed to the tax and noted "p" or "pauper" on the register so that the tax would not have to be paid.  It was repealed in 1794.
