Title: LGOC and 1891 census
Post by: Norfolk Nan on Saturday 29 March 25 14:29 GMT (UK)

I want to check the Holloway depot for the LGOC on the 1891 census and wondered if there is a simple/effective way to pinpoint which enumeration district it's in - there are more than 50 so a shortcut would be useful.

Thank you.

The United Kingdom Census of 1891 recorded the people residing in every household on the night of 5/6 April 1891.

What are you hoping to find?

What is LGOC?

Yes, I know.  It's a bus company and I've found it now (a bit of luck) so thank you.

Thank you.

I have someone missing from the 1891 census, a single man, and know he worked at that depot so wondered if he was on their census listing.  He isn't so he's still missing  ;D

What was his name?  Maybe someone will get lucky and locate him for you.

I have posted this before so didn't want to start a search but if anyone has a spare ten minutes - John Lee, born c1864 in Isleworth.  He's a single man so could be lodging.

There's a John Lee, born Isleworth, Omnibus driver on the 1901 Census at Islington - wife Caroline and 2 children, both born before 1891. Address is Durham Road, Islington.

Is this "your" John Lee? If so, and you consider him single in 1891, did he marry into a ready made family?

Yes, that's the chap.  The couple married in 1899 and yes, he took on a ready made family.  In 1891 his future wife was with her husband, had a John and Ellen Lee as neighbours and these are my chaps parents.  But he is missing.  He was an omnibus driver except for his marriage cert says farrier (horse drawn buses) so he could be doing anything relevant in 1891.
