Title: Date for photo Newcastle Victorian Unknown sitter
Post by: Dan_Hall on Friday 28 March 25 20:38 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I am looking for a date for this photo which I am hopeful is my 3X Great Grandfather William Wood. Any help or information would be much appreciated, he was born in 1807.

Thank you for your time and have a lovely weekend,

Dan

I would suggest early/mid 1870s

Ah, well, that rather rules him out! Thank you, possibly his son then whom the album it came in belonged to.

Thanks,

Dan

This is an 1880's copy of an 1860's Ambrotype.
If you look at his waistcoat you will see it appears to fasten on the wrong side
which is a bit of a giveaway.
He looks in his 30's possibly early 40's which still doesn't fit with someone born
in 1807.

E Sawyer was advertising from that address 1865-1868.

Hello, thank you so much for the insight, it is a puzzle for me who it can be but all these details can help me with that. I thought it looked reversed. It is a curious one, I was hopeful it was a copy from the early days of photography but 1860s would put it too late as people say.

Thanks for all the help and advice, have a lovely week,

Dan
