Title: Aarhus Street Name
Post by: stuartroxy on Thursday 27 March 25 10:51 GMT (UK)
Hi folks, I’m in Aarhus tracing my wife’s Danish family. Unfortunately, they appear to change address every 20 minutes or so!  I’m struggling to decipher this one. Any help would be most appreciated.

Sorry, missed the first bit. Ole Rainers vej. Street named after a person.

I've found this site very useful in the past but can't find anything under R-

Thanks.

Our most recent Danish waiter suggested that as well. It’s in the same part of town as some of the other addresses; so we’ll have a look there.

👍

Have you tried the Old Town Museum, Aarhus?

I thought I saw a dot over what I took to be an i, not an e. The n or perhaps m is joined too; isn’t it just cursive handwriting?

Not yet tried the Old Town Museum - that might have to wait till the next visit!

The Danish cursive writing (and ‘different’ letters) has been awkward.

It’s taken from a Church record from 1900.

Thanks, all!

The street you're looking for is Ole Rømers Vej. It doesn't exist anymore, and I've failed to find an old map showing its position. I did find enough information to know in which area it was.
1882
https://www.aarhusarkivet.dk/records/000188985?search=1

Following a petition from the relevant landowners and in accordance with the Declaration of the Paving Committee, the City Council decided to give the private road that intersects Montanavej and that runs from Matr. No. 154 and 165 a in the East and No. 143 and 155a in the West, the name of "Ole Rømers Vej".

---
1893

Following a recommendation from the Committee for the Expansion and Development of the City, the City Council decided to give the section of road that, on the stretch between Büllovsgade and Bruunsgade, leads from Ole Rømersvej to Brammersgade, the name of Brammersgade, which thus applies to the street right from Marselisborg Allé to Büllowsgade, while only the continuation from the latter street to Frederiks Allé is called Ole Rømersvej.

Zefiro,

You are a star!

We did think that might have been an option, but thanks for the confirmation!

I’ve had another look and Ole Rømers Gade looks to have be in the same place.

Go to that site, click on Ole Rømers Gade and you'll be able to see the location on the map. One reason I liked this site was being able to check how close different locations were from each other when researching my cousin's grandmother from Aarhus.

Looking at Google Maps the street is still there (with that name)-
