Hello,
I have been researching two John Johnstons from Co. Fermanagh, both of whom had father John.
One was John Johnston who married Anne Chittick Aug 16, 1877 and my research indicates that his parents were John Johnston and Bessie Morrow. This John died Nov 23, 1929 in Muckross as per Proni. Would anyone have a write up or obituary or other information about his death and/or his family. In 1911, he had had 7 children, 6 living, the youngest of which was Francis in 1891. I don't know the date of death of his wife Anne but it was after 1911.
The other John Johnston was born abt 1864 although I don't have his birth record. His father was John as per his marriage record in 1884 to Rebecca Chittick. This John died Mar 10, 1940 in Drumcurren, Kesh, Co. Fermanagh as per Proni. I don't know the date of death of Rebecca whose father was George. I am looking for more information about John such as which children were still living at the time of his death. I believe son George lived until May 18, 1979 but don't know about the others, of whom I have Maggie Jane, John, and Mary.
thanks for any help with these two John Johnstons. Peggy

Have you searched the Civil Registration (GRO) records prior to partition (1921)?

I have learned that Rebecca Johnston nee Chittick died 18 years before her husband so abt 1922 although I haven’t found her death record.

Record # 409 ?

I would say that can’t be her since she died before John so wouldn’t be a widow in 1921.

There’s a Rebecca Johnston death registered in Irvinestown on 28.7.1926 aged 61.
GRONI reference: D/1926/117/1014/9/218

I checked that one out as well and she was also a widow in 1926 so not her.
Thanks for pointing it out.

The informant was her son Henry Johnston of Parkhill.

Thanks KG. This definitely proves that this is the wrong family for Rebecca. She should still be married to her husband John in 1911.

Indeed she was!

That’s her in 1911! I notice she is 10 yr. Older than John. So by 1922, she would be approx. 69.

Hi
In 1901 Rebecca is shown as only five years older than John… so take your pick. See:-

Yes, you are right. I notice that Her husband John is living with his uncle John, not his father John.

Bane of my life! Oldest church record is John son of John Johnston and with a John in very generation, that is very unhelpful!

I looked for the death of uncle John 1901-1911 but didn’t find him. He was married in 1901, age 80. Maybe he lived longer than 1911.
