Hermann    Ernest John   Death  0    Hull    9d   206
11 months old I have found this death record off who I think is one off my great grandfathers sons he was born in 1884 Kingston upon Hull thinking January

Cause of death:
Congestion of the lungs
Son of John Hermann, music teacher
The only way I can be sure of it is to get a birth certificate but unable to find looked everywhere hoping someone may be able to help

The GRO - General Register Office - website lists mother’s maiden names for births.

A site well worth using as it also lists ages for deaths.

You have to register but it’s free to use.

The GRO: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

The downside is that the search engine is not as flexible as FreeBMD.  Also the online index only contains:
Births: 1837-1934, 1984 onwards
Deaths: 1837-1957, 1984 onwards

How did he die?

You would have to get a copy of the death certificate to find the cause.

The FAQ page on the GRO website states:

Online View digital image for historic, digitised civil registration records held by GRO (birth entries from 1837 up to 100 years ago and death entries from 1837 - 1957).

I don’t think it’s an option in all cases - which one are you trying to order?

The birth for Theodore Vincent is available as a download.  If you find his name in the birth index then click the circle on the left next to his name 3 options should come up including digital image.

Exactly the same process for his death record.

Not to confuse things but is there another Hermann/Rumball family?

I am looking at the marriage of Louis Hermann to Agnes Mary Deacon widow whose father was Rumball as the parents?

Do correct me if this is not “your” family.

Yes her father was
Louis Hermann son of John Hermann
Louis married Agnes’s Rumball (Dora )
John Hermann his father’s third married Elizabeth Rumball

anthony - once you have registered on the GRO website - you need to go to the section on the menu down right hand side 'Search the GRO indexes'

On the page which comes up - click 'Birth'
Then input the details you want - you know the year, so just select that year.
Input his name (with surname spelt as Herman).
click 'male'
input reg. dist.
Click Search.

Result should come up.
Select the 'digital copy' option.

Then continue through to the payment screen.

You can do the same for the death of the other baby someone found for you.

Sorry - I should have added;

Once your payment has been accepted - you should immediately receive an acknowledgement - with a section allowing you to download the digital image.

Just click on that.
