Looking for help where I have hit a brick wall with William Hodges, Born 12 January 1857 Walcot, Bath
Information I have is:
William Hodges
B: 12 January 1857 Walcot, Bath
D: Unknown
Married Amelia Donald (B: Abt. 1862, Landport, Hampshire): Abt. Jan 1883, Portsea Island, Hampshire
Children
Alfred William Hodges - B: 1889
Florence Amelia Hodges - B: 1893 D:1956
Liza B Hodges - B: 1895
Donald Frederick Hodges - B: 1907
I have references to William in the 1881 census as an Able Seaman on Vessels, in the 1901, 1911 and 1921 censuses. I also have his naval records from the National Archives, from this I know his date and place of birth.
On the naval consent form, 'son' is crossed out and replaced with 'nephew', it is then signed with a mark as Pryor/Pryfor or similar. I assume this means William's parents had died by 1872 when he joined the navy.
Despite having his exact place and date of birth, I cannot find any information on his parents or relatives. There are a few other William Hodges born in that area at a similar time, including a William Charles Hodges (Born 10 Nov 1857 in Bath) but I've ruled them out based on the exact date of birth from the naval records.
Looking for help to find additional information on William or his parents/relatives.
Thanks in advance for the help

The marriage record from Portsea, Jan 10th 1883 has his father as William Hodges, coach builder (seen at FindMyPast).

A possible family connection?
In the 1871 census in Barton Street, Trinity Walcot, Bath, there is a John Hodges age 66 coachsmith. He has a brother Robert, 68, also a coachsmith and a son Edward, age unclear, also a coachsmith.

I would just say don’t rule out too soon if a date of birth isn’t exact. Often days, months and years are reported inaccurately on various records.

From Bathbmd.org.uk:
Surname: HODGES
Forename(s): William Charles
Mother's Maiden Name: RODD
Year: 1857
Sub-District: Lyncombe/Widcombe - First Series
Registers at: Bath
Reference: LW1/13/172

There's an Emily Elizabeth Hodges' birth registration, Dec Qtr 1858, Bath, - mother's maiden name Rodd.
She and William C are under Hodger on the '61 Census (FindMyPast) with parents Charles and Ann - Charles' occpn "Carpenter".
An Ann Rodd married a Charles Hodges, Mar Qtr 1857, Bath.

The uncle is possibly a William Prosser.
I'd post a snip but this is a look up board and attachments aren't allowed. Here's a link:

That's great, thanks. I hadn't found that. Gives me another William Hodges to find!

Thanks, I did look further into William Charles Hodges, but it looked like his parents were still alive in 1872 when William joined the navy, so I'd assumed not him as the date of birth doesn't join up and the uncle signed the naval form. I'll have another dig and see if anything else confirms and denies.

The family are together on the '71 Census - William's occpn is "Telegraph Messenger". Do your William's naval papers include a profession/occupation when he signed on?

(Snip posted looks like "Mark x of William Prosser)
William Prosser, Dec Qtr 1850, Bath, 11 66 - on same page Mary Ann Hodges
Added - there's a William Prosser at Walcot on the '71 Census but with wife Charlotte. Re the 1850 marriage previously posted, on the same page was a Charlotte Taylor.

Not that I can see, but I might be missing it as the quality isn't great.

Another snip. Prosser (?) has been altered to Hodges for the boy's name
