Well it has started already, my husband needs to speak to a Dr to follow up from 3 lots of antibiotics and an xray, last week the Dr took away 1 tablet, he needs to sort it out, can't do it by phone, got to to it on the computer, not everyone had a computer, I know that for sure, in my opinion it is a stupid idea, I can see A&E will be overflowing by people who can't get an appt, or worse, will die.
Anyways it is a dull morning her and very cold, was nice to have the few nice days though.
Hope everyone is feeling chipper this morning and those under the weather are improving

A dull morning here, too, but I have put out 2 lots of washing, as it's going to be a busy week for me with several morning activities. I'm feeling much more chipper now that the consultant has cut out one of my tablets, the one which was described by my pharmacist as liable to make me lethargic and heavy-limbed. He was right! I felt as though I was wading through treacle mentally and found walking required rather a lot of extra effort. I must go head with some Spring cleaning while in this mood. :)

Medications , not all suit everyone, today I had one changed because there is a possibility I am having muscle and body pain because of it, one can only try, also statin didn't agree with me, we take medication given and take them all for granted, I am hoping my change of meds will have me running around like a spring chicken, I can only hope.

Afternoon all
I rang the doctors today hoping to ask to adjust my prescription - short version they upped my dosage of one medication, but you can’t get the meds in one tablet, you have to have 100mcg in one tablet and 25 mcg in the other to make a dosage of 125 mcg each day. So I take two tablets , one 100 and one 25 at the same time each day. Still with me?
So the 100 ones have a different renewal date to the 25’s as they were started by them at different times. Please can I have the 25’s adjusted so they run out at the same time as the 100’s, so I’m not having to bother the doctors/ go to the pharmacist more often than I need to. No you can’t says they, unless you come into the surgery and fill out a form. No idea what the form is or what it will ask. Seems like common sense to me to request the adjustment, but clearly not, so that’s a job for tomorrow. Couldn’t do it today as it’s 8 days before the 25’s run out and they can only do prescription requests 7 days before ………..

So what if you are going away for a fortnight and your tablets run out 3 days before you get back?
I lurk here often and read with dismay English problems with medical treatment/doctors/surgery secretaries/parking charges and the like and am forever grateful for the French system, despite the complaints of the French - they don't know they're born !!
In passing, I can renew meds. for the next three months as long as I ask at the pharmacy less than 30 days before the 3 months start.

Drives you mad doesn't it Candleflame? You'd think someone could just say Hang on a tick and I'll override that. Commonsense doesn't seem to be very common. :-\
I order my medications online, all was fine until someone decided to do a medications review, whereupon they all ended up being available for ordering at different dates instead of my being able to order everything together. That was made worse when I was going on holiday and had to request an item earlier. I made the mistake of saying what date I was going and the prescribing clerk took it upon herself to hang on for days before sending the prescription to the pharmacy. I found this out when I phoned to ask where it was, I said she was cutting it fine as I was going away very early in the morning and the pharmacy takes 48 hours to dispense the prescription. She said No they don't!
I ended up phoning the pharmacy as my prescriptions are delivered to me, I got a much more helpful person who confirmed that they do take 48 hours and possibly more. She had processed my prescription that morning and it was on its way.
The next time I was going on holiday I didn't tell the surgery the exact date! After keeping my eye on things I've managed to align the items again.
So Margaret, that's unfortunately the kind of thing that happens!
-
Like Roobarb I get my meds delivered, they all run out at different times. I phone the pharmacy ten days to two weeks before the date the earliest one runs out, the pharmacist contacts the surgery and orders the prescription for everything, then delivers two months supply at the same time. It works out one request for everything every two months. The only one I don’t order is the stuff for my twelve weekly B12 injection, the District nurse orders that and the pharmacist delivers that separately.
I was on morphine in hospital but don’t like the side affects and would rather tolerate a bit more pain. so I refused to take any strong painkillers and stick to Paracetamol.
I managed to cut out one lot of tablets while I was in hospital, I felt they were no longer needed and the hospital Doctor agreed and said I could drop them. As one gets older the doctors seem to find all kinds of reasons to dose us up with medication.

OH Dear, not looking forward to that! :P .. luckily I have avoided regular medications thus far but noting the various issues here with interest re scripts, quantities and waiting times. Some years back I had to have health authority to be prescribed a restricted medication I was on for a couple of years and sometimes found I needed to to find a pharmacy who had it in stock. Not sure it was overly effective actually and managed to get off it once no longer needed special authority and our doctor instead of specialist could prescribe it. I felt I was contributing funds to his overseas jaunts actually as they were rather expensive visits to him and the medication was costly on top of that :)
Husband does have scripts for several things, can apply with online portal for repeats or phone receptionist and a call to pharmacy to see when ready and no issues there usually. His main annoyance is the count of some, that they don't match in numbers with others of supposed equal quantity even though they should but usually out by a few each time. He does watch for that to get them in time though, eye drops he needs to keep up regularly for glaucoma are good though, shelf life not so much.
We must be approaching winter even though still very summery, have both been contacted by our local medical centre to say we're eligible for the flu' jab from 1st April!
A lovely catch up this morning with friend visiting from Australia and on her way back home tomorrow. Her family were good neighbours of ours 50 years ago, they had 2 or 3 moves after that and eventually settled in Australia, she is now the only one left of the family and a couple of years since our last get-together but regularly in touch.

My grandson is backpacking at the moment, spent a month in NZ but unfortunately left himself short to spend extra time in Denedin, he is in Melbourne now and travelling to Sidney within the next few days, he has booked a surf school which is what he really wants to do, he is a very quiet lad and I am really surprised how he is coping, gone a boy and I am sure he will return a man, he has been to some interesting places, I have been to NZ and enjoyed it very much, would go again but I am not so sure travelling now, think our abroad days are over
Medication, you are right, it does seem it is dished out willy nilly, in my opinion they almost frighten you telling you what will happen if you don't take them, I had to change one which gave me a persistent cough, now changed another with an unwanted side effects, but I am still here so I shouldn't complain.
Looks like a beautiful day here so far, BT coming to update whatever so I will be offline , not sure for how long
Viktoria, have you been out on your scooter yet?
Take care folks.

Luckily for us our GP's surgery is a dispensing practice, as we live in a village some distance from the nearest pharmacy. We are able to order medication online through the surgery's website, but if it's something you need regularly the prescription is renewed automatically and you are given a date for the collection of the next prescription when you pick up the current one.
I agree, it can be difficult to synchronise the different medications if a new one is prescribed at a different time and sometimes I find I am close to running out of one or other and have a bit of a panic. The pharmacist can be quite strict about issuing things early, too, but it's really useful to have both a practice and a pharmacy so close at hand.
Viktoria
How are you getting on with your scooter? We are all very keen to know and wish you good luck with it. I do hope you are not going to become one of those boy racer drivers who regularly tear around the streets, narrowly missing those of us slowly plodding along. :)
-
Having worked in IT all my working life, my solution is a spreadsheet!
I show:
Medication name
Dosage
Stock level
Date due to run out, based on a calculation using the date of last stock check.
Then I order what I need 2 weeks beforehand.
I have 6 medications and 2 "extras" - test strips and lancets for my blood glucose monitor.
I have just ordered the 3 medications due to run out in the next 2 weeks.
-
Just so you know what happened next, I went to the gp’s this morning and eventually got the necessary form. It took the staff ages to find said form on their system. I now have to wait till I get the next 84 tablets , probably by next week , as our pharmacy ( next door to the gps) takes at least a week to put the tablets up ( they send some off to a hub in Southampton apparently) then I have to count the tablets I have left of the other dose and put that on the form. The form is designed for you to sync every med to the same date, but my other meds are more ‘ as and when’, so I only need to sync the one medicine, albeit in two different doses. I suspect I’ll have to put a large note on the form saying I’m only wanting to sync the one medicine.
So what I thought was a very simple request to alter one item so it tallied with its counterpart, is not straightforward at all. It all goes to the ‘ pharmacy team’.
Re the pharmacy, many people have moved their prescriptions to other chemists because of how long they take to put the meds up and sending them off way down south and we are thinking of doing it as well, so we can get them more promptly, but we’re waiting till my husbands meds are more stable ( they’re adjusting them at the minute).
I know we are very fortunate getting free meds as oldies, but sometimes it seems like the systems need a bit of common sense applying.
-
That all sounds such a rigmarole CF and time consuming! As you say, with some commonsense could be a simplified system!
Have to be thankful, and we are, that we can book appointments, repeat scripts etc via the online portal, by phone or visit and with very little delay and 2 or 3 on reception at once plus a nurse available to assess urgency etc Also medical centre and pharmacy close proximity to home and as yet no need for deliveries, just a call when needing to pick up a repeat to check when ready. Again grateful for subsidies etc with minimal payments.
Wish all well ...
-
Good evening all , everyone is quiet this week.
Referring back to the new Drs appointments I feel it will work out fine eventually when we all get used to the new rules and regulations, the receptionists I understand will help znyine who either hasn't got a computer or can't cope with the film to fill in.
Been a couple if beautiful days but I must admit I have felt cold today when most others have thought it very warm.
Viktoria, any escapades on your new machine ?
Take care everyone

Glad to report that we've had a couple of really nice days here in The Midlands. I even discarded my thermal vest today for a few hours - back on now!!!! Let's hope that the good weather will continue - please, please, please :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
One can only hope :)
We have a dear little 6 month old neighbour who sometimes comes over with her mum to join a few of us others in the street who get together on a Thursday morning for a chat and a bit of knitting at our place. We did achieve a few nice cuddly blankets for baby last year and a few other projects get finished but chatting is a speciality! Little one is now on move and crawling when she came yesterday but at least plenty of eyes to watch her movements with all the surrogate grandmas ;D She is always smiling and doing very well considering had to wear a rigid brace her first 3 months day and night for a club foot and checked weekly at hospital, now only wearing it at night but for a long while yet.
Getting on for late afternoon Friday NZ and really aware of the shortening daylight hours now, another weekend upon us too already!
-
Mare, my grandson arrived in Sidney this week to torrential rain, no doubt it will brighten up for him he has sent some wonderful photos of Sidney by night, quite spectacular.
Babies seem to be so far advanced as the years go on, it is nice to watch them progress,
The clocks change this week , are you ready folk's?
After a couple of really nice days today is much colder and very dull but it is still only March
LM
-
I see Viktoria hasn't been on this week's thread, although she has been online. I wonder if she's not found us.
Lovely warm and sunny day yesterday, back to being cooler today but 18 degrees forecast next week. :)
I hate it when the clocks change, it throws my body clock out for ages but I will definitely appreciate the lighter evenings.
-
I don't like the clock change either , will.mean noisy neighbours will be out who hibernate during winter but they make up for it in the summer

Well, another lovely day ,got son’s bed stripped, completely.all washed and now airing .
At Head Office for a few days .
On Sunday - really fed up with oven so as I have it insured with D&G I phoned and an engineer came yesterday -it was rubbish on Sunday ,would not get to temperature .
I did not clean it as I thought it would be written off , however seemingly it is a fault with this model ,the element is not powerful enough ,needs to be fan assisted but ordinary cooking is the first option,so a new element and other things .
Well! Trump has done a Putin re Greenland !
Mind you he could be thinking he could do a “back door “invasion “ of Russia!
The man is surely mad—- His own “ Ukraine”——-
He will expect us to help on the basis the U.S.A has helped us twice in the two world wars even though they left it bit late .
When they did join us they were were outstanding and we were and are thankful.
As old man Steptoe said to the American seated next to him on the plane flying to Flanders for a WW1 anniversary event.
The American mentioned “ The 1916 War” old Steptoe came back with - “ It was *********1914-18 for us! “
Oh dear -
Such an exciting afternoon ,cleaning the oven -, but I did the sink unit out too.!!!!
My halo is glowing .
.
Clocks forward on Sunday as has been kindly mentioned .
Mothering Sunday , I must get some flowers in for my mother and mother in law ‘s memories .
Card from daughter aLready.
Eldest son will come tomorrow to shop with me , Tesco, order in the evening but need some nice fresh real bread!
No idea when second son will be back ,some “ big” meetings !
Well thanks for your best wishes to those unwell or with problems or unwell
and with problems ..look after yourselves folks.
Viktoria.
-
Good to hear you're well Viktoria :)
I hate cleaning the oven, can't stand the strong chemical cleaners as they make me gasp for breath. It's a shame because they're really effective. I've tried all the recommended non chemical cleaners such as bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar, they just don't work. The smell of vinegar makes me gasp too! So my oven isn't exactly pristine but there are better things to think about than a mucky oven!
-
I chickened out for similar reasons and paid for my oven to be cleaned professionally, wasn't cheap but it looked pristine after.
Keep your halo gleaming Viktoria.., you're a busy person
At last collecting our new fire tomorrow to complete our heating system, not as efficient as our gas back boiler was but the new electric one should help when it is really cold, our chimney goes through the centre of the house so the chimney breast was always warm, that's gone now and it makes a lot of difference, wish we had explored other central heating systems, stuck with it now, ah well!
LM
-
Thanks for your kind wishes folks.
We loved our Economy Seven heating system.Seven hours of very cheap electricity that charged up storage heaters .
With twelve feet high ceilings a lot of heat went up there , but we were really cosy, hisever static did collect dust and the walls above the heaters
needed decorating more frequently.
Well a bit of drama this morning -horses - three I think ,I heard their hooves on the lane at the side of my house .
I was still upstairs sorting things out ,just as the horses would be passing a property a little way along ,-the owner is a motor bike enthusiast -and just at that moment he had his garage door open and let full throttle an enormous
VROOM !Well the horses screamed and turned away from the noise and the only close by place away from it was down the back lane where after a short distance it is badly overgrown and there are huge storm drains six feet deep and over a meter in diameter .
Not visible in the brambles and dangerous as the original iron covers were stolen by “ travellers” .They were replaced by wood but they must be rotten now . However the horses did calm down but Phew!
The motor cyclist did not know horses were coming I think ,the lane is not hard surfaced so no clippetty clops for the chap in his garage to hear.
I hear dull thuds when horses pass .
I don’t know how I stand the excitement ——-
Washing line full of son’s stuff ,he will get his legs smacked when back home again!Socks inside out-
Tesco delivery later today .
Eldest son here tomorrow and will pick up what I want extra from the supermarket near them .
I can’t live without my T,V, programmes timetable.
A newspaper with stiff quizzes and demon crosswords.
Weather very pleasant if cool.
Look after yourselves folks .
Have a lovely weekend and for those whose families are far away and not able to visit, you will be lovingly thought of.
Viktoria.

Hi,
I wash everything inside out! I always thought garments kept there colour better and didn't bobble so much, less friction on the outside.
Still waiting to hear if Viktoria has used her scooter yet!
Welly x
-
Perhaps she hasn't, I am sure she will let up know when she plods up a hill and whizzes down.
LM
-
Not yet!
I think it will be better if one of my sons accompanies me first, just to the cemetery and back. They have suggested it.
Second son is down at Head Office for most of next week ,eldest son is not too well at the moment so I will wait a bit .
Iwas so confident on the trial run before I purchased it , but that one was all set up etc,I think I ought to ask for a bit more “ tuition”—
However ,went for eye test last week and the opticians were running late, three people before me and it was an appointment !So I had to wander round as there are only two chairs in the shop, so popped in three charity shops very close by,but that was as much as I could do .I was really tired and shaky ,my son had driven down and was mooching in a big antiques shop to kill time before picking me up to go
home .He had no idea of the delay .So I need to use it ,but the opticians is just small on a very narrow pavement ,no place to park it.
If he is better eldest son will come tomorrow as it is Mothering Sunday so if he has time he wii walk with me.
His wife likes to go to the cemetery where her mother lies of course, with flowers . He usually goes too, as Louisa Maude says cemeteries are not always safe.
Tesco order just come ,missing a new bristle hair brush ,my hair is a mess, all the tablets perhaps - though a good quality brush might help.
Well hope no one is lonely tomorrow especially the ladies .
Goodnight everyone ,take care ,especially those with difficult health issues.
Thanks for your kind interest folks.
Viktoria.
It will get sorted .
-
I'm sure you will be a 'whizz' once you get to use the scooter Viktoria :D
Have an appointment with optician myself Tuesday, a 3 monthly checkup as he's keeping an 'eye' on a little cyst which fortunately hasn't changed since first noticed.
We're visiting the 2 month old twin girls who came home from hospital around their due date a few weeks back, just in time for birthday of their mummy. I have been putting aside little things to take since news of arrival and including some wee garments they won't get a lot of wear out of for long I expect, hopefully not made a mistake on too little as if I have then I've done it twice :D We are fully over any residual now too from lurgy we came home with from our holiday.
Happy Mothering Sunday where it applies and enjoy any pampering and family time coming your way. In NZ we celebrate as some others do with Mothers Day second Sunday in May and not the Lent observation.
LM, I'm sure your grandson will have been having a wonderful time on his trip or OE ( overseas experience ) as we call it here when young adults venture outside the country to explore.
Enjoy your end of week, sunny and warm Sunday late morning now here ...
-
Well I hope everyone has a lovely day this Mothering Sunday ,whether you are a mother or not .
Sunny here but cold ,just polishing the door knobs as my meticulous d in l will be coming with my son this morning .
I swear to goodness they can’t actually live in their house —— it is showroom perfect always!
But she is very pleasant and we have never had a cross word .
No children, her choice but kind and helpful.
Daughter will phone soon after she has sorted her horse out ,does that early on weekdays before work.
Well must crack on and then the rest of the day is mine.
Cheerio, look after yourselves .
Viktoria.
-
Hope very ones joyed today, mother's, fathers whomever, been a beautiful day but a tad chilly.
I won't last the day, I was awake at 05.30 summer time, early night tonight perhaps
Take care, another week starts tomorrow.

A lovely family day, warm and sunny, too. My daughter and granddaughter had made afternoon tea - delicious sandwiches with all our favourite fillings (Brie and grape for me). My son brought fruit scones, jam and clotted cream (eaten the Devon way, cream first, jam on top).
Mothering Sunday is always a bit sad for my son and his wife, whose premature baby lived for just 4 minutes, but who is always remembered on these family occasions. She is buried in the local churchyard in a small grave.
My daughter's children are growing up fast. Grandson will be 14 this week and granddaughter is 11, but nearly as tall as her mother and me (we are 5 ft 8, though I am shrinking now :o). I was 5 ft 6 at her age and tended to stoop a bit to try and hide it. The school sports mistress spotted this and had me in for remedial exercises every morning until I stood proud and tall.
The forecast is for warm and sunny weather this week, so things will be moving fast in the garden. My mint is growing at a rate of a couple of inches a day! There are quite a few bumble bees around and some butterflies, too. The birds are singing all day and are busy pairing up and building nests. Roll on Summer!
