Seeking any Immigration details of Henry and Margaret McVey (m.s. Murray) Murphy who married in Scotland during 1915. I am not aware of any children born prior to departure. She was born 15 July 1885 and passed 04 Feb 1973 at Christchurch. Further, I believe she lived in Granity.

Death certificate for Henry (24 August 1954) will have information supplied by Margaret hopefully.
It should say “years in NZ” which will help narrow down the search.
Where have you already looked?
Have you checked Family Search? https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/collection/1609792

There are a number of daughters listed here, but it doesn't seems that any of them were born in NZ.
Margaret Mary Murphy married William Sommer 1937 (born 1916 died 2015)
Catherine Veronica Murphy married James Cowan Cumming 1940 (born 1918 died 2007 see https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/187523627/catherine-veronica-cumming)
Patricia Theresa Murphy married Mervyn Charles Kitchener Taylor 1939
Mary Philomena Murphy married Joseph Vincent Westbury 1946 (she died 1999 and was born 1921)
Angela married? Collins
I think this might be them arriving 1931. They are marked as Scotch. Henry must have come seperately. The ages of the 5 girls line up.

Thank you. I am insufficiently experienced with NZ genealogy. The Passenger Lists will take some time to view in order to locate Henry. Do we have any idea where in N.Z. they landed?
-
Doh! Just realised it was Auckland! Now to locate Henry who probably preceded his family.
-
FindMyPast passenger lists has Mrs M Murphy, 45, sailing for Auckland with Marg't 14, Catherine 12, Patricia 11, Mary 9 and Angelina.
Sailed on the Corinthic from Southampton, 27 Mar 1931.
Address was 22 Manse Street, Saltcoats, Ayrshire.

Thanks to all for your input expanding my knowledge of my extended family.
It appears the Murphy family disembarked at Auckland during either May or June 1931. Further, Scotlands People lists daughter Angelina as "Angela M Murphy" born 1923, at Ardrossan Old (Ardrossan is immediately adjacent to Saltcoats). Now she has been recorded under several forenames; Angelina, Angela and Angeline. Regardless, she was the youngest child.
Ergo, Henry's arrival in N.Z. must have occurred between 1923 (Angela's birth) and 1931 (arrival of his family).

Thank you. Interestingly, her online Will contains a Death Register at File 11 for a Joseph Baxendale - must be an error! I've never heard of the gent plus he was born in England.
Thanks again for the Cemetery website.
-
Joseph Baxendale was nominated by Margaret Murphy to be her executor, but he died before she did. That is why there is documentation on the estate file signed by Angela. [See consent on file (page) 13].

Aah, well spotted!

Is there an N.Z. subscriber who could locate Henry's arrival during the period late-1927 and mid-1931?
Henry must have preceded his family between late-1927 (his U.S. State of Illinois Mining Certificate was dated 19 Oct 1927) and the arrival of his family onboard R.M.S. Corinthic at Auckland during either May or June 1931. At the time of their arrival, Henry was already working in the Granity coal mine. To assist with search:
Name: Henry Murphy
DOB: 4th November 1885
Age upon arrival: 42 - 46
Occupation: Miner
Nationality: Scottish

Henry must have preceded his family between late-1927 (his U.S. State of Illinois Mining Certificate was dated 19 Oct 1927) ....
Hello q98
Above suggests he may have travelled to New Zealand, from the USA ??
Might that be correct ??

Yes, I too gave that some consideration but discounted it. Although he may have. I know that while employed in USA, he returned to his family on several occasions.

Hi q98
What was your reason for discounting "it" ?
* Was there some "sort of pattern" in him making return visits to his family ? You say "several occasions" ?? When ?? Dates ??
Presumably he was returning to Scotland was he ?
* Have you traced him entering the USA, at all ?
When we are unable to find records of persons travelling to / or entering New Zealand, then we have to cast the net a little wider ... and explore other possibilities.
Did they arrive in Australia firstly ? (If they did, then they were able to travel freely to NZ without the need to go through the Immigration process. They might simply just appear (if at all), on a passenger list as "Mr J. Bloggs - disembarking at Wellington" - no age, no occupation .. ).
In the era you are searching, mid to late 1920's - early 1930's, the detail given in passenger lists isn't always particularly helpful.

I did find this ??? at FamilySearch website ... and you might like to look there further at the "NZ Passenger Lists".
The following man travelled from USA in 1929.
Ship : "Tahiti" arrived at Wellington, NZ, on 12 March 1929 - from San Francisco
3rd class Passenger - Embarked at San Francisco - destined for Port of Wellington NZ
Mr H. MURPHY - age 45 years - British*
Arrived : Wellington 12 March 1929.
[Note: "British" also included persons born in Scotland].
???
Maybe you can find a departure record (USA) for thiis person which might give other details ?

FindMyPast "New Zealand Post Office Directory 1930"
GRANITY Nelson 18m N fr Westport by rl (4/2 2/2) Buller Co. A mining dist. Names of miners not given below.** Tel & M O
Two columns of names under Granity, including dozens with occ. "miner", but lists only 1 Murphy -
"Murphy J miner"
** - not sure what this means given dozens of miners listed?
-
Thanks Lucy2, I believe the gent you located departing San Francisco is probably he as the data fits. The limited data I have originated from a member of his surviving immediate family.
I found the Family Search NZ Passenger Lists confusing and not at all user friendly.
Thanks to all for your collective efforts.

Hi
Yes, agree, ... after many, many, years of using, I still find FamilySearch passenger lists a "nightmare" to search. ;D
Re: The Mr H. MURPHY per the "Tahiti" 1929 ... I did a search of PapersPast (shipping columns) hoping I might find him arriving at Wellington and trans-shipping to the West Coast ports shortly afterwards. Alas, nothing to be had.

I am satisfied the gent you located is he. Thank you once again.
