Just starting off the new diary before any complaints about overrunning! ;)
Viktoria, hope you're okay after bifffing your head, at least no-one said Take more water with it. ;D
MH, hope you're okay too, good to hear you're progressing.
Rootschatters in Australia and those who have family or friends there must be very relieved that things are turning out better than expected.
Went into town yesterday for lunch, the mist was rolling in off the sea and got progressively worse, by early evening I couldn't see the field at the end of my road, it's only a few yards away. Cold and miserable today, what a difference from Saturday. I agree that the sunshine is a mood enhancer, there's a little bit forecast during the week. Hoping for an upward trend.

It really feels as though Spring is round the corner here today. It's quite warm, the biting wind has dropped and the sun is peeping out now and then. Most importantly there are daffodils and primroses everywhere, bringing brightness and cheerfulness, and of course there are those £1 bunches of daffs in the supermarkets. How many years now have they been on sale for £1 a bunch? My cynical husband suspects that there may be fewer blooms in a bunch these days! Magnolia trees are in bloom and cherry blossom is beginning to show. I'm talking about Devon, by the way, where the temperature today is about 14 degrees (though I've just read that the temperature is about to drop considerably tomorrow! ::).
Hope all are well and recovering from their various illnesses and problems.
Choir practice tonight - we are practising for a Concert with Cake in April. (Did I tell you that any occasion in the village has to be accompanied by cake?) Five groups will be singing, ranging from a large choir and a shanty choir to trios and quartets. It's in aid of a girls' school in Africa.

I bought three bunches of daffodils last week, priced at £1 per bunch but was only charged £2. I wondered if they were perhaps past their best but they've opened up into all their yellow loveliness. :) I don't think there are any fewer but the stalks were too short for my vases so had to find an alternative.
Re the tankers that collided in the North sea near Humberside, all crew have been brought ashore, one in hospital. There are concerns locally that the fuel spilt might reach us. The pollution issue is certainly a worry, whichever part of the sea it's in.

I have stocks of shredded glass and also other chippings that I can use in the bottom of a vase, so that shorter stems don't disappear. The glass ones are better as they don't show too much in a glass vase.

It has been quite a dull day today, had about an hour of sun and that is about all, so, no washing out today, I fear today's weather is more like March than the last few days were, although enjoyable .
I decided to go a little way yesterday to a catherdral by bus, a special service involving the priest in charge at my church, never again by public transport on a Sunday, when I got back to the nearest town almost dark I felt quite uneasy, had to wait 15 mins for the bus, only 1 an hour, never again on a Sunday, I did have the chance to go by mini bus but at the time joked I would give my seat up to the old folk, what a laugh?, so missed an opportunity, I will not do it again by public transport, 2 of us used the bus, it was an enjoyable service which made up for it.

It seems I misheard the news report earlier today; currently bulletins are agreed the ships collision took place in open sea water, close to East Yorks. Thankfully not within the estuary. Some casualties were hospitalised, I believe no fatalities have been reported.

Thanks for starting the new week Roobarb..
Miserable day here today, spattering of rain every so often quite unlike yesterday and Saturday..
As I looked out of the conservatory window at all the snow drops, mini daffs and iris they hadn’t got quite the sparkle they had in the sunshine… ah well we can just hope for improvements.
Good to see you on her MH and hope you’re getting on well with the support classes…
LM - pity your day out was not enhanced by public transport, never makes one feel easy hanging around at dusk.. come to think of it we’ve not hear from River Tyne Lass for a while hope she’s ok.
Great idea BumbleB for long vases and short flowers.. will have to remember that one.
Well hoping tomorrows spent the afternoon rehanging our pics now the hall stairs and landing have been repainted..
it reminded me of exactly 5 years ago when first covid lock down was just about to start and we were hanging the same pictures in different places .. quite a de ja vue experience…
Was it really 5 years ago when we all started posting our daily thoughts on here.. and we’re still going strong!
Well hoping tomorrows going to be a better day for a new walk a friend and I are trying..
Take care all and hope all those who are suffering are feeling better.

I have loads of clearish glass marbles - yes, I did mislay them for a while, gusts of laughter when I innocently asked if anyone had seen my marbles! - for boosting things in vases, clear and otherwise.
Our grapevine in the greenhouse is either having a very good lie in this year, after last year's late and inexpert ( by me) pruning and tidying, or it's died. My magnolias are in bud, and the prunus with dark foliage and pretty shell pink flowers has bloomed overnight! Not bad.

Latest: 1 fatality; Container Ship captain arrested; and Owners of the cargo ship say it was not carrying sodium cyanide, as previously reported, but had four empty containers that had once held the toxic chemical

I still have loads of my marbles too TY :P ... also those decorative glass pebbles in various colours for craft etc along with a couple of other shapes. the green pebbles look quite good in a vase too.
Sounds like you gave yourself a nasty whack Viktoria, we can make light of these things I guess but not really fun knocking ourselves around ... and so many possiblities too in the home to do yourself mischief at times! Be safe and well all ...
Have had the lovely sunshine again part of today though it's quite overcast here right now late afternoon and still warm but expecting that Autumn chill as day closes in in a few hours ....
-
Viktoria, hope you are feeling better after you knock on the head.
Yes, five years of the diary, doesn't seem possible, does it, thank goodness for it.
Seems there is a change in the weather, having stripped my bed to replace new bedding I was hoping to have it out today, not looking to happy at the moment, should have done it all last week, was a big job moving my bed and under boxes, not so long ago I did it on my own but I think my got up and go have got up and gone, but a good job done.
Enjoy your day folks

We have sleety snow showers this morning ! Plus it’s very cold so we need a big coat again.

Very cold in Devon too.
BIG coat definitely. :o

Having changed my bedding and a spring clean I have my large padded bedspread out no breeze but clear and chilly , hoping it stays bright .

Have just been for a rather bracing walk! On my walk I saw a bin lorry parked off the main road with a fire engine behind, the firemen were hosing down the contents of the lorry. Our local council regularly tells people not to put batteries or electronics in their bins as they can cause fires in the lorry. Presumably this fire was as a result of people ignoring that instruction.
So please remember folks, NO batteries or electronics in your bin!
-
Lucky you Roobarb, a bracing walk is a pipe dream.
Today is the first day of my fourth week in hospital. We’ve been in lockdown for two days because of a patient with an infection, for some mysterious reason they have let her go home because her husband cried for her. The only two of us not with dementia can’t understand the logic. It even prevented me having two days of physio, have been sat here doing what exercises I can. Now waiting to see what delight the they have for lunch today.
Gripe over, hope everyone else is as well as can be.I guess there must be lots of spring flowers in bloom. Viktoria are you on your Qingo yet?
-
Oh Jebber, didn't realise you were still in hospital.
My local hospital has some words closed due to infections, it is best to contain it but strange they let one patient go home.
Your time will be up soon for good behavior, take care

I'm so sorry to hear you're having such an awful time Jebber. That's a long stay in hospital and being restricted even further must be so frustrating. Good on you for doing some exercises despite the lack of physio, very much hope you're soon up and about.
I have crocuses and snowdrops in flower in my front garden and a couple of daffodils which are in a large pot in my back garden. I can understand why flowers are not allowed in hospitals any more but it's such a shame.

Yesterday afternoon I spent a very pleasant time back at school. Well not exactly at school , but with a group of year 7 students at Kingswood School, in Bath. This is a Methodist Public School.
There was an invitation sent out to the members of the local Methodist Churches in Bath to a tea party at the Sports Pavilion of the School and which is sited on the top of Lansdown to take tea with student members of the school.
There were about 30 of us, mostly beyond our sixtieth year, matched by a similar number of students. They had done all the prep in making cakes and cookies and sandwiches and were on hand during the afternoon to look after our every need.
The group was split between 8 tables, six to each table and at each table there were three students. Around halfway through the afternoon our three left us to join another table and there was a general move around the whole room.
One of the students provided a musical interlude with some beautiful unaccompanied (and in tune!) solo singing. Music to cover all ages of the spectrum was provided so that the fogies did nt feel left out.
It was interesting to learn about the students, their various interests and families and in some cases their very definite views as to their future, although some were not quite as forthcoming on this.
The one and a half hours soon passed. I certainly enjoyed being with the youngsters and their empathy with us all. I am certain that they all enjoyed themselves as well. Their attention to all our needs and the manner in which they all joined in the various conversations around the tables and loked after us bodes very well I think for their future life and careers.
Well done Kingswood School.

Thank you LM and Roobarb for your sympathy, I was simply letting off steam. The ward is now open again, hopefully we will get another patient with all her marbles, the only other one does nothing but come and complain to me. I feel very sorry for her as she has been here far longer than than me, but it very wearing when it goes on from morning to night..
I think I will be able to write a book about life in the Funny Farm after this. ;D ;D ;D

That sounds lovely Jeff,I have chats over the fence with the older pupils, I often have music on quite loud, Ananda Shankar, Andean pipe music ,The Dubliners—- very loud!
If I am getting washing off the line etc I say hello as they pass and they sometimes ask what is the music.
My Hyacinths gave “ bolted”,very tall, need stakes and the perfume when I come downstairs in the morning is very “heady “.
Total change in the weather, well temperature wise, a bit of hail and really cold.
Sausage and mash for tea with baked beans ,vegetarian sausages for me .
I am late because of the filing but we eat quite well if fairly plain sometimes.
Hope you are soon better , Jebber, we need our sleep when not well.
I remember being in hospital ,in a ward with some elderly ladies thinking “what an I doing in here .” well I was older than some but at that time , was not forgetful ,well I don’t remember if I was ;D ;D ;D
Spring is coming along. Buds and shoots ,but still so cold .
Never mind we are not in a war zone .
Cheerio, off to prick the sausages.
Viktoria.
