Title: Lower case "uf" between given and surname - meaning?
Post by: Rakiura John on Sunday 09 March 25 02:50 GMT (UK)
Here's one for the linguists. The witness John Farrell in the 1898 marriage below, has what looks like a suspended u beside what looks like an f in the middle of his name. Haven't come across this before. What does this signify?

All I see is an upper case script F.

Just a bit more flourished at its starting point than the upper case script F. which starts FARRELL.

Thanks all. The Groom was resident in Ballybrophy, and the 1901 Census has a John Francis Farrell in Grange Beg, just north of that town. Solved I'd say.

John
