Post by: CHackett on Saturday 08 March 25 11:10 GMT (UK)
Struggling to find information on the Mycroft Family from Derbyshire

I know Ann Mycroft (unknown maiden name)(b.1800) married George Mycroft (b.1788). They had 10 children:

- Hannah (b.1826) - married Richard Sterland
- William (b.1826)
- Mary (b.1827)
- George (b.1830)
- Joseph (b.1832)
- Margaret (b.1834)
- John (b. 1836) - married Betsy ???
- Henry (b.1839) - married Ellen Proctor
- Matthew (b.1841) - married Emma Hodgkinson
- Anne (b.1843) - married John Young

I would love to be able to go back further or find some siblings

Please see same instructions given on your previous posts

To find mothers maiden name - check freebmd for a birth reg then use that info on GRO online

Last 3 children were all born after 1837

www.freebmd.org.uk
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

Have you looked for the parents marriage on www.familysearch.org  Ancestry are showing a hint at an 1824 marriage to Ann White

I couldn't find George and Ann's marriage.

Although I did find the marriage of Hannah and Richard Sterland (1850) (my greatx3 grandparents), however, their was no information on a possible maiden name for her mother Ann.

Until you establish her maiden name via the procedure shown above - you won't be able to

Mothers names/maiden names are never shown on their children's marriage certs - that applies to current day marriages

Hi
So Ann's maiden name is White.
The couple married 18.4.1824 at Ashover Derbyshire.both of this parish and both signed.
Witnesses William Mycroft and Mary White.
Tombstone here
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/176257032/george-mycroft

The 1851 census gives George 's birth as 1788 Blackwell.
Bapt 23.3.1788 Blackwell George s of Mathew and Mary Mycroft.
Siblings Jane 14.3.1790,Mathew 27.1.1792 ,Joseph 25.2.1795,Mary 19.8.1798,William 6.3.1801,Francis 16.10.1803  ,Margaret 25.10.1804 ,Ann 16.2.1807 and Francis 2.10.1808.

Mathew Mycroft bapt 7.7.1765 Blackwell s of Mathew and Jane.He was buried there 21.2.1827
He married Mary Nighton 18.3.1788 .So a bit of a shot gun wedding.
Mary 1767-25.9.1838.

The Mycroft family seem to go back quite away at Blackwell.

Hope that helps

Thank you so much this has been really helpful in pushing the ancestry back a few more generations. I will now have a look and see if I can go back further with the information
