Looking for military details for Pte 161946 George Dronfield Gregory WW1. Anything that may also give any family details. Regards
-
It appears that his army records (other than medal roll and index card) have not survived.
A man of that name married Norah White in Oughtibridge in 1906. His father Alfred Dronfield Gregory. Millie(?) Dronfield Gregory was one of the witnesses.

The Number Quoted was his later Machine Gun Corps Number
His Three Medals were issued and inscribed 18722 Yorkshire & Lancs Regt
We don't know when he left the Army alot of Machine Gun Corps went to India straight after the Armistice so his Records weren't sent to Arnside Street Repository 1920 so not Destroyed if he left later in the mid 1920s

Shame about the military records…
Sandra. Many thanks for death date for Ann Gregory, had not got that. Will check the 1921 census to try to pick her up? Regards all.

I think George was born as Dronfield not Gregory
See Probate
It looks like George married again in Mid 1920 the Certificate may give clue if he had left the Army

Hi Sandra. That’s a great find, yes I’m sure it’s the right George Dronfield? In 1881 Matthew Gregory was boarding with Ann & family (no George) so wondering if Ann divorced George & set up with Matthew after George went to prison and married him in 1890. Many thanks
-
Still mystery and intrigue :)
-
Hi Sandra. I note the Article is dated 29 March 1873 but the trial was set 7 March 1863. Was he acquitted after 10 years in prison?…….interesting. Regards
-
He was acquitted on the 1863 one.
1873 - assault and robber got 10 years. There was a gap from charged 5 th March 73 to the case being heard until sentence 27th March
