Title: Penang Surname Gawthorne
Post by: Pinang on Friday 28 February 25 07:24 GMT (UK)
My Great Grandfather was James Gawthorne. His father was a palanquin groom who killed his wife and was executed in Penang, making his son and daughter orphans. The son was 'adopted' by the congregational missionaries in Farquhar St and named after their ordaining minister James Gawthorne of DerbyUK. Where can I find records of the murder and execution? Also, any letters or records of the naming of James Gawthorne?

These events happened in the period 1830-1850, I think.
