From 1948 to 1951 Harry Douthwaite was secretary Cirencester HMC, Watermoor Hospital. Regularly appearing in newspaper advertisements for nursing staff in newspapers from Cornwall to Belfast. Then he disappears and no newspapers or ancestry sites have any mention of his death, likewise i have not found any immigration or name change. Just a note he is not the H Douthwaite at Truro Hospital in 1951 as the dates clash Any help appreciated.

He married Audrey Mary Raine in 1939 & appears to have had at least 3 children.
A tree on Ancestry shows his wife died in Canada so have you checked for emigration or checked whether the children married in England?
EDIT
The children b 1940 & 1945 married in England - See freebmd

Further investigation revealed a lot I hadn’t been told, so as he doesn’t appear on Find My Past Immigration, I decided to let it rest.

Please reach out to me as Harry Douthwaite is my grandfather. Any information you have would be invaluable in trying to find out what became of him after the mid 1950’s
Thank you

There is a burial for a Harry Douthwaite at St Michael, Coxwold, Yorkshire in March 1986 (age 74) have you discounted this one
ADDED Death was registered Scarborough reg district in December qtr with a birth year of 1910 so probably best ignored as it matches a birth in the area.

Thank you for your reply !
The 1986 death could be him and I will follow up, as my nana did share she heard he died in the 80’s
The post below is him as Audrey Raine is my Nana. Though the divorced in the 50’s and she came alone to Canada.
Not one single living family member knows what happened to him, or was uncomfortable sharing.
It’s so sad . I have been trying to find out what happened to him since the 90’s. Thanks so much again

Without a will or death certificate I summarise that there are family issues that would be private but an assumption he returned north is feasible.
-
It would seem so. But I won’t give up as he was ‘my family’ And my Mum spent her life trying to find him till she passed away last year.
I did hire an investigator a few years ago, sadly with no trace found.
My hope will continue .
Cheers

The 1939 entry for Audrey has the surname Schmidt written over Douthwaite which usually indicates another marriage. Nothing in England
Audrey Mary Douthwaite is on the 1960/61 Electoral register for Northallerton Yorkshire - address Stirling Garth. No Harry with her

Thank you for your findings. Always find it extraordinary how people vanish.
