Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Unfortunately, you have mistakenly posted on "How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) board".

I have asked a moderator to move your request to The World War 2 board where you might find an answer.

Good luck

My guess would be London Depot. I believe this may be a reference to HMS President (https://web.archive.org/web/20080305182215/http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/server/show/nav.2879), that is to say, a land based administrative centre and accounting base for RN Personnel in London.

Thanks for responding. I thought as much because it was just after his training but as the training was in Australia I thought it was possibly a ship not a place.

This was an accounting and admin base for all Royal Australian Navy personnel who were loaned to RN ships.

The London Depot sometimes referred to as HMA London Depot, was based at Australia House, the location of the Australian High Commission in the Strand, London. W.C.2.

Regards
Hugh

Thanks so much. That's exactly what I wanted to know.
