Morning all
This morning we are up early as the fence people who put our replacement fence up last week came back to collect the old one and BT who are coming to change our line to this new digital voice are due to arrive too.

CF, we have BT   coming to add one of those new fangled updated things, the bill has risen by £15  a month, no discount for loyalty of 56 years .

Symathathise  with your problem to get to sleep,  or for me to staying asleep,  no trouble getting up even though sometimes I am so cosy I would like to stay there but for me no point if you can't sleep.

Good luck with BT/EE, CF. Our switch over went very smoothly.
We've got gently falling snowflakes up here - have they arrived there yet?
Take care  :)

Beautiful morning here today… frost overnight so had to clean car windscreen before going off to yogalates!
What a difference seeing the sun makes really lifts the spirits … trouble is looking out of the windows 😱😱 despite the window cleaner coming 2 wks ago!
Looking forward to getting into the garden and do some tidying up… been so cold and miserable not been worth it before.
Well decorating now starting next week as his other job has over run… doesn’t really matter but we have bust a gut to empty three floor to ceiling book cases!
New carpet has to be moved forward too by 2 weeks.. ah well it’ll be worth it..

Hope everyone feeling more spring like..
Take care

Caroline

Yet another grey, overcast day here. Chilly but not nearly as cold as last week. It's breezy, the washing is on the line  so hoping it doesn't rain. Oh for some sunshine 🌞. It must be a week since we had a bright day.
I also didn't sleep well last night despite having a busy day yesterday. Some more DIY planned for this week.

LM, have you tried negotiating with BT? If you go on one of the comparison sites and see how much you can get the same services for, then use that as a starting point to tell BT that you're unhappy with what they're charging you in comparison. Tell them that you've been with BT for all those years and might have to think about leaving because of the price they're asking. If you don't want to do the price comparison, just tell BT that you're unhappy with the price.

I know it's a bit of a pain but worth it if you get a price reduction.

I did all of that and told them that I had been a customer before 1969 and was there no discount for loyalty, appears there isn't.

Thank you for the suggestion

Well we’ve had a very frustrating day!
Fence people came when they said they would, took away what they said they would and cleared up. Good start.
BT subcontractor came , installed the cable drilling through the wall, fastened it to the wall with cable clips then rang the doorbell. Couldn’t continue as the ducting at the front of the house won’t allow the fibre cable through and how long had that ducting been there? We told him 42 years as we’ve been here that long and bought the house from new as in still being built. Only BT have ever ducting, I’ve only ever painted the outside a nicer colour.  So he has to refer the case back to Openreach to send a ‘civils ‘ to us sometime to sort the issue out. He was very nice and did say he hadn’t cut the old cable as if he had , we’d have had no phone and no internet ( and I’m guessing no central heating as the thermostat appears to be one that needs the internet to work to get a signal. )

Then the electricity went off - yet another power cut. Long standing supply issues with an intermittent fault on our estate, so lots of messages, fb posts etc flying about and the MP is now involved . As we look after our grandkids we had to go to their house to cook their tea and text their mum to say this is where we are after you finish work.
We are now home and the heat is on and the cooker clock has been reset again ! I even know how to do that without getting the book out to tell me how to do it as I’ve done it so often.
I’m looking forward to my bed!

What a nightmare Candleflame! Thank goodness all got sorted, I hope it's stayed okay.

It's supposedly a bit less cold here today, 6 degrees forecast  and 'feels like ' temperature of 3 degrees but when I went out for a walk it felt more like zero. Brrr!

Hi Roobarb
Instalment number two today of the BT saga. They turned up unannounced just before we were due to leave for grandkids school pick up so I had to stay home and send OH to get them.
They tried to join us up - one van two men. Then a second van arrived with a man with a small wiggly camera. He tried to get it down the hole and said there’s a blocked duct so they couldn’t proceed. Have to put in a chit for a digger team to come and dig the estate pavement up , but don’t know when that would be.
Then nice BT man said would I like him to reroute the new cable as he wasn’t impressed with the way the subcontractor had done it earlier in the week. So he then rerouted it much more neatly and left it coiled up near the front door until the digger lot arrive. We were only having it done as they said everyone had to move to digital voice! Hey ho.

I was told all that would be needed was for EE to change the nub in the house where the phone is plugged in———
Oh I can’t cope  with things like this.
Second son helping but has to leave to see what has arrived via the computers.
. Eldest son here two days, sorting out the new shed for the scooter.
Electricity, a ramp, floor covering ,the floor is wood so needs protecting , some shelving .

A cold rainy day again today.
More photographs and little videos of baby Lily ,such smiles and proper laughter now.
Making noises when spoken to.All smiles.

My utility room had to be emptied. to get at the spare socket, then an outdoor cable properly installed so no water ingress etc. It all has to go back tomorrow!
But it does mean a really good clear out will have been done.

Did old fashioned hot pot with dumplings for tea tonight ,ages since I have done it.
Phone call from Pharmacist ,re eye drops etc Still being prescribed  ones with Beta blockers which make my heart far too slow.
It will get sorted.
 Gosh February has flown by.

Well Trump is blaming Ukraine for starting the conflict with Russia. ———-
Unbelievable !
What a divvy.

Hope those unwell are getting some improvement ,there are some long term illnesses out there.

Cheerio folks. Viktoria.

Sorry you are still having problems over the eye drops Viktoria, it should have been sorted long ago

So can't move around.

I won't be posting for a while but will still be reading the posts.

Hope everyone else is okay.

Oh, I am so sorry Jebber,I hope you have a speedy recovery .
Accept all the help you can, physiotherapist etc.and exercises to help rebuild muscles you won’t be using for a while .
I wonder if Vitamin D and Calcium  would speed recovery —- but get expert advice .

So sorry too about the bladder stones , perhaps you are like many people and don’t drink as much as we need.Again best wishes for a speedy recovery .
Are you in a hard water area?

Fish and chips for tea, so an easy day really.

Shed all done ,just a ramp to protect the threshold now, ,son had a good idea, one on a hinge which really might do the trick.

Well,pots to wash and a T.V evening ( as usual) .
Best regards to everyone ,and sincere wishes for speedy recoveries

Viktoria.

I have been awake since 4.40am, decided after over an hour to get up, can't  do much for fear of walking my husband d but he has just got up.

I had a telephone call from a family member I didn't know, 2002 I wrote to her father, then I had a letter from her mother, both since  died , it has taken time  for this person to go through her parents papers and found my letter to then, we corresponded through emails yesterday  so I might be back on the family  tree research again,  been  a bit lax lately as no one is interested, or wasn't till yesterday, so it will be interesting swapping  family history, we both know we had 1 " naughty boy" who spent time in prison, very sad , he came  from a well respected family,

Jebber I wish you well , hope you will be out of hospital soon, just take it easy.

Very dull again this morning g but we did have 3 days on the trot where we had reasonable  weather,  thought I would be able to mow the lawn , now wet again, have to wait for more nice dry days I suppose,  the garden looks awful this time of the year.

Viktoria,  sounds as if your plans to house your buggy is coming together nicely.

Take care everyone

Another wet day in Devon, with heavy rain and roads full of puddles.  As you said, LM, at this time of year the garden looks sad and sorry, but I walked round ours in a rare rain-free moment and spotted lots of primroses, snowdrops, daffodil buds ready to break, crocuses, hellebores, flower buds forming on several shrubs.  Spring is coming!  There may soon be more dry and sunny days, although March can be testing ("March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb" - or the reverse, of course!) the thought of better and longer days and my birthday coming soon cheers me up.

My best wishes too Jebber, I hope our posts bring a bit of light relief for you. That's if you're not too busy looking at the eye candy.  ;) ;D

A bit of rain here early afternoon but mostly okay, although it was pretty windy this morning, could hardly stand up against it!
I have snowdrops in flower too Gillg, last year a friend dug a lot out of her garden and I was very happy to take some off her hands as snowdrops are notoriously hard to grow from new bulbs. I  couldn't remember where I'd put them but I was pleased to see them pop up in the front garden.

A beautiful warm, sunny day today (Saturday)!  It's hard to believe, though I understand that rain is forecast to return tomorrow. :'( Coming back from town this morning we saw long queues of cars going into the town, which is by the sea and has a long beach.  End of half term week and a glimpse of the sun had no doubt stirred everyone to get out into the sunshine and have a paddle.

Picked up my new reading glasses this morning and am finding them very helpful and rather more comfortable than my bifocals for reading.  I don't have to twist my neck to find the right angle and of course I have a whole lens to look through instead of half of one.  I was very pleased to be told by the optician that my prescription did not need to be changed, though he did say that I could have another pair if I fancied a change - I couldn't see any reason to fork out another few hundred pounds, so just stuck with my £75 new reading glasses and am pleased that I did.

Back in the garden my husband has just mown the lawn and I have spied some little blue irises.  Also the camellias are full of bud and some have opened now.  There is a strong sweet smell, which my husband tells me is coming from the Sarcococca (Sweet Box).  It's not something you expect at this time of year, but it's very welcome and this is an easy plant to grow.  It doesn't get too tall, doesn't attract unwelcome pests or diseases, you can clip it like a box hedge or grow it in a pot.  Another good shrub is Skimmia, which has flowers in the early spring and berries later in the year. (We've got one of those, too.)

The birds are getting very noisy these days.  They obviously know that Spring is on the way and they are thinking about mating and nesting.  There's a lot of activity around the bird table, which has been noticed by an unwelcome visiting cat.  He/she gets shooed away pretty smartly and may receive a jugful of water if he is persistent.

The chat about specs made me check,  the bottom part of my bifocals is the reading bit, I had an experiment and the glasses I have for the computer are not a reading  prescription, I will ask my optician, due to go for a check up soon, I will   need new specs as I didn’t change them last year,  only got sun glasses,  so I think I need a new pair of computer specs as well as bifocals, ah well, no pockets in shrouds!!,  can't take it with us.

Jebber hope you manage to read the diary and feel easier, take care.

Viktoria,  gave you been out for a joy ride yet?

Miserable this morning  but it has brightened up, grass to wet to mow and to cold for me to do gardening  today although it is milder.

Take care everyone

Hope you are at least comfortable Jebber, and getting some sleep.
Hope everyone is alright.

More mix up re eye drops!
One Lyle is  prescribed as 10 times a day for eight weeks.
In the explanatory leaflet it says not for glaucoma.
I had telephone appt with Health Centre Pharmacist who said that it was not a contraindication ———-, well if not I don’t   know what is!
Oooh I am really cheesed off wit.h it all.

A lovely sunny mild day here ,washing  on the line ,will bring it In before the damp, night air comes down.

Eric Sykes on F.V. again this evening,I do hope we get to see “ The Plank” again.

Well will go to see to the washing .
Best wishes to all unwell, forvgood recoveries.

Thank you everyone for all your good wishes.

Viktoria, I have been taking vitamin D and Calcium for 25 years   Ever since I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis, I’m now  to be given a new drug instead of the  Alendronic acid I was given previously. No trouble sleeping here, rather more trouble staying awake.

Son has come for the weekend, brought in mail he found on my doormat, appointment for next Wednesday at outpatient clinic in partner hospital, another hospital cock up because I will be either still here or in rehab, so hospitals not communicating. ::) ::) ;D

Good to hear from you Jebber, I'm sure the sleep will help your recovery. The frustrating thing about the appointment situation is that you don't know how long you'll have to wait for another one.  :-\

Gillg, a friend of mine who is quite new to the pleasures of gardening said that she'd cut her lawn, I told her that it's too early in the year. However, I'm sure that in your neck of the woods there's less chance of a hard frost than here on the NE coast! Having said that, we usually suffer a bit less than further inland. My back lawn looks such a mess but I'll wait a little while yet. The beast from the east was mid March!

I did get some gardening done yesterday, pulling out a lot of dead stuff. I have some geraniums in a very large pot that I moved near the house for the winter as I lost them all last year. Unbelievably, one of them has a flower on it! I also have a hebe in my North facing front garden that's been flowering for some time.

A lovely sunny morning, washing on the line .

Just looking for any eco friendly moss killer for artificial grass.
So much rain has turned my nice patio flagstones quite green too.
Not up to scrubbing them so will think about a power washer , any tips welcome .

Ratatouille ( my version  ie chuck in whatever) for tea with Parmesan cheese scones .

Daughter phones this evening , more photographs have come of Lily, in one of those front carrying thingies on daddy)s chest, in a walk through glass tunnel sea aquarium.
It is lovely, mum and dad are doing all sorts of educational things ,might even have her name registered with UCCA,ready for Uni!

Well hope all are O.K.,especially those we know have health problems.

Regarding cleaning up your flagstones, there is a solution you can buy to pour on and then wash off… can’t remember the name of it sadly but I’m sure someone on here will know… maybe Roobarb?

Lovely to hear how your little ones are doing and hope you get to see them all soon.

Sorry Caroline, I have heard of that but don't know the name. Have had a look online, there's one called Wet and Forget, another called Pro Kleen, lots to choose from.  Someone kindly jet washed my front drive, I couldn't believe the difference but of course it all gets dirty again!

I do hope you managed to watch "The Plank" last night.  I did and laughed out loud.  It was such simple humour and no swearing, well not much speaking at all.  It did remind me of Laurel & Hardy at times.

Beautiful sunny, windy day here, so did two loads of washing, bedding and towels.  They are all dry, but the downside is that I now have a load of ironing to do, of course.  Choir practice tonight, preparing for a "Music and Cake" afternoon concert.  For anything to be a success here it has to include cake, and we have some very good bakers in the village.

Podiatrist (and gossip) tomorrow morning at home, followed by a surgery visit for a blood test.  Next week I have to keep a BP diary for the week.  I hate those BP machines.  They get so uncomfortably tight and I never really trust the readings.

My son washed our patio with his jet washer last summer.  What a difference it made!  The trouble is that it now needs doing again.
