Title: Maiden name of mother
Post by: Kessa on Saturday 15 February 25 20:45 GMT (UK)
I am having trouble deciphering the maiden name of Margaret Kelly on this Scottish marriage certificate of 1882.  It is in the 4th column and reads Margaret Kelly M.S. La....her (Deceased).  Any thoughts on what her maiden name could be please?

Hi, I would suggest getting in touch with SP via the Report Issue tab, explaining your problem. They will either check for you or rescan the page.

Thanks for the two suggestions, it's a tricky one.  I have taken up David's suggestion and asked SP for a re-scan or a check of the original entry.

I will report back on their reply.

Thanks for your interest.

I've received a new copy of the marriage certificate and believe the maiden name of Margaret Kelly is Lawther which is well known in County Down, Northern Ireland where Samuel Kelly was born.

I've attached a new scan of the relevant piece.  Greensleeves was very close.
