Title: Deceased Online Burial Registers
Post by: haney on Thursday 13 February 25 23:08 GMT (UK)
Hi
I would like to know if anyone else has ordered a scan from Deceased Online please.

https://www.deceasedonline.com/servlet/GSDOSearch.

If anyone has used this could you let me know if there are any relevant information.

By looking at the site it seems that an Applicants name and address may be included!  Would love to find out.  Regards Dianna

Yes, I have used this Deceased online and gathered excellent information from scans of original burial records. Pretty sure if you read through the information you can pull up a sample of records.

Hi suzyvan.  Thanks for that.  Great to hear you have had success with it.  I was trying to read all of the terms and conditions and it made my head spin.  Will look into it now.  Many thanks Dianna

I have had varying results with the information given on English records, I do not know if Scottish are different.  Some just have name, age, abode and others such as a Crematorium may give information as to whether the ashes were scattered there or taken away and they name who has taken them

Hi rose99.  I guess for 2 pounds (as that seems to be the cost) I guess it will be okay.  There could be a couple/few family members buried in the same grave, that would be interesting to see.

Similar here with burials quite a few could be in the same grave.

I'm fairly certain it would be a burial and not a cremation.  I am really curious to see it though.  Thanks Dianna

I use Deceased on Line.

You can see the people buried in the same grave from your initial search for an individual.

However if a grave number has been transcribed incorrectly - someone else can be shown as buried there! That happened with my grandparents grave. There was a stranger with them.

When I looked at the original register entry for that person - it gave her husband's name - so I looked for him, found him and I could see his grave number - and could also tell how my 'stranger's' grave number had been mistranscribed. I think it depends on the cemetery and possibly the period - as to the details included.

I contacted Deceased on Line about the error and they corrected it.

In my local cemetery, it usually says things like 'wife of' or 'widow of' - where they died, and if it was in hospital - sometimes their home address is given also. In addition you see the name of the person applying for the grave and of course - the grave number.

In cremation cases it will say if the ashes have been scattered.

I do think the info may vary from place to place though.

I've extracted quite a lot of information from DeceasedOnline. I generally take out a subscription every few years and then extract as much as I can until the subscription expires. At the moment I don't have a current subscription.

The information is only as good as what was recorded at the time of the burial. The more recent the record, the more information you tend to get, and (as a very broad generalisation) records before the 20th century are better kept in towns than they are in rural parishes.

HI Well I just tried to change my password on deceased online (twice) as I had forgotten my password, no response so far.  Then I tried to contact them and I received a message saying that this site cannot be reached.

Another good morning I'm having.  I will contact Angsusalive I think and see if they can help.  Very frustrating.  Wow my family are problematic.  Thanks for all the responses.  Kind regards Dianna

Hi well in my last ditch effort to find James burial record I am emailing the Angus Archives, hopefully they can locate it for me.

I tried paying for the transcript TWICE after all the hassle with a new password and my payment was not accepted.  Worst experience ever honestly.

I can't contact them either.  Seems like a bad omen doesn't it.  Anway onwards and upwards I hope.  Thanks Dianna

Really sorry you have had so much trouble, Dianna. I can't understand why.

If you want to give us a name and approx year - we may be able to tell you whether the person you seek is on that site.

Hi Pennines thanks those details were on my initial enquiry, snip included for JAMES CHARLES.  Finding his entry on Deceased Online was easy LOL.  I guess I will just have to wait for Angus archives to help me fingers crossed.  Thanks for your time.  Regards Dianna

So sorry - I missed the snip!!

Well I have NEVER seen anything like the result for your James Charles.

The result is from a Churchyard - Farnell Churchyard, Angus. It's a sheet of paper with some names on it, saying 'Line No 6' - 'Graves Parallel with Church'. However none of these names are for your James!

Hi Again sadiep.  The management of James memorial was transferred to me, not sure how!! when I contacted the person who was managing it I asked them how they got the information to put his details there for the Farnell Kirk.

Well the answer was he didn't know where the information came from!!! To me if there is no headstone (which there is not?) HOW did he find this information.  Another headscratcher.

That is one of the reasons I was hoping that there was an "actual" grave location for JAMES CHARLES by searching deceased online.

Around in circles!!  Anyway that's where I am at the moment.  I know he is there at least.

I was going to email one of the volunteers there at Farnell but there is no point unless I can tell them where he is.  Thanks Dianna

Hi everyone.  Just a little update on the seach for my James Charles.  I finally contacted deceased online and this was their reply.

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

We are in the process of fixing the data for the Angus area of Scotland
on Deceased Online. In the meantime, I can send you a copy of the
original handwritten record of James's burial record. Please see the
attached document.

Thank you for your patience.

Kind regards,

Deceased Online Customer Support

From here I'm hoping to find something a bit more "specific" as there is not an exact position given.

Could be I assume on either side of the church.  Hopefully and I know I'm expecting a lot.  LOL  but perhaps a grave yard map may turn up.

Anyway I thought I would let you all know and many thanks for the help and advise.  Kindest regards Dianna
