Title: 1871 census - Neale
Post by: gpneale on Thursday 13 February 25 17:02 GMT (UK)
Hi there - I've been unable to locate EMMA NEALE b. Birmingham 1813-15 in the 1871 census. I have her census records in 1841, '51, '61, '81 and 1891 before her death in 1897. She would be a widow by 1871, her Husband Henry Thomas Neale having passed in 1867. Age 55/56 - Children all grown and likely to have left the family home by 1871 too.

I can't seem to find where she was in 1871 despite really looking hard. Grateful for any input and help.

Cheers.

There is a 58 year old Emma Neale in Aston, Warwickshire - born Birmingham, a widow and employed as a Nurse with a family in what looks like Lozells Rd. Aston.

I wonder if that might be her.

There is every chance of that being her - thanks so much (and apologies for the late reply).

Ancestry isn't throwing that up though that I can see - do you know the street address?

I found her on Find My Past - in Lozells Rd (that's what it looks like as I said).

The Head of House is Adam P Petipher, aged 29 - born Bewdley, Worcestershire.

Just checked on Ancestry and Emma has been transcribed as THOMAS!! No wonder you couldn't find her.

Spectacular work Pennines, for which I am indebted.

I would simply never have found her as 'Thomas'.

Massive thanks.

No problem at all - I just happened to search on Find My Past, where she was transcribed correctly. So when you said you couldn't find her on Ancestry - I searched for the Head of that house on Ancestry.

I couldn't believe it when I saw she had been transcribed as Thomas. Unbelievable!
