Title: John Buckley - 1871 census Oldham
Post by: Tittensor ONS on Wednesday 12 February 25 07:57 GMT (UK)
Hello, I am struggling to find someone on the 1871 census in Oldham.  I hope that someone can help.

Probate records show that John Buckley, of 183 Manchester Street, Oldham, died 20 Sep 1873 at 183 Manchester Street.
His will mentions:
- sons John Gaunt Buckley (executor) and Lewis Buckley.
- daughters Sarah (wife of Edward Swindells) and Esther (wife of Samuel Horrocks).
Witnesses William Wrigley of Manchester Street & John Buckley of 148 Middleton Road.
The will itself is not dated.  It was proved on 31 October 1873.

I believe the he is the John Buckley in the GRO index in 1873Q4 age 60 Oldham RD (8d/423) - so born c1813.

I would like to find him on the 1871 census.

I have looked for him on Ancestry but not found a good match.  Buckley is a very common name and there are lots of possibilities.

My ancestor, John Buckley (the executor of his will) and wife Hannah, are 148 Middleton Road (RG10/4097/43).

There is another John and Hannah Buckley at 80 Middleton Road (RG10/4104/65).

Please could someone help me find John Buckley of Manchester Street in 1871.

Thanks for your help.

If you search for William Ogden b 1846  (Boarder) the page will come up on Ancestry

Cathy, thank you very much for your help.  I now see him on Ancestry.  I missed him with my search by name and gave up searching the original registers page by page for Manchester street.  Ancestry would be better if it had a street index.

Now I have his place of birth and another view of his age I can start to explore how he might be connected to "our John", also born Saddleworth.

Thanks again

Paul
