Title: Mary Garwood baptism/parents lookup
Post by: AR.Usher on Thursday 06 February 25 04:32 GMT (UK)
Mary Garwood married John Pickess on May 13, 1817, in Dedham, Essex. John died in 1839.
She remarries to James Garwood on July 30, 1848. Stating her father is Thomas Garwood.
In 1851, I find them living together in Dedham, Essex, 1851 census. Mary says she is 52 years old and born in Stratford, Suffolk.
In 1841, when she was Mary Pickess, she is 40 years old.

I can't find Mary after 1851, James Garwood dies in 1852.

The Pickess family is originally from Horton, Suffolk.

Did she live with a married daughter after her husband died and was given the wrong surname on the census.

Mary Pickess, widow, dau. of Thomas Garwood did indeed marry James Garwood, widower, son of Samuel Garwood on 30/7/1848 but the marriage took place at Colchester. St. Mary not Dedham.

I agree with Kay99 that her baptism was indeed the one for Mary Ann Garrad at Stratford St. Mary in 1799.  (Her parents Thomas and Sarah buried as Garwood, he 14/7/1836 Dedham and she 13/5/1845 Dedham).

Thomas Garwood shown bc.1769 and Sarah (nee Banham) bc.1770.  Thomas (as Garrood) was bp.24/4/1771, son of John and Martha and Samuel bp.2/12/1763, son of John and Martha, both at Dedham so Mary and 2nd. husband James Garwood were indeed cousins.

Is there a connection to James Clueit? Or Cluett, even!

Still no response from AR.Usher to the replies on that thread!

I'm not sure. I haven't completely researched her children yet, or of James children from his first marriage.

It could be her. The other Mary (nee. Loyd) seems to die in 1887, age 86.

I found that Mary too, and got so excited because I was like "Sophia? Such an easy name to find!" But nope. (She is listed as sister-in-law on one of the other census for the same family.)

Thank you Annette7 and Kay99.
If it makes you feel any better, James and Mary didn't have any kids?
Gross.

Probably isn't.

She is more likely to be the widow of Abraham Garwood, who was buried at Dedham in 1861.

But do feel free to buy the digital image.

Hi amondg
Your marriages round up has been a big help.
Hopefully it's the right Mary. Don't think there are any other Garwood burials in Merstham.

If AR.Usher cannot find a better alternative, it might perhaps be worth a punt on the death certificate for £3.

I thought Thomas Pickess married Harriet Maria Reeve? His middle name is Garwood.
Born in Ipswich, Suffolk. He moves to Saint Saviour, Surrey. Children's birth registrations say Reeve.

Thank you!

According to familysearch Harriet Nelson (nee Reeve) was a widow when she married Thomas Pickess in 1840 (Dedham) but can't find a marriage between a Harriet Reeve and a man surnamed Nelson.

Yeah, found their marriage certificate again. I never really researched his line much, as I managed to find a descendant of him a while ago.

Annette

I can't find any children with the surname Nelson, mnn Reeve.
I'm wondering if they "eloped"
Possible the marriage was never documented, possibly by accident, or the groom died before it could be.
