Title: Finding a death in NSW

I am trying to find the death of an uncle of mine who emigrated to NSW in the early 1960s.  I last spoke to him by telephone (I'm in the UK) in about 2004 and have no info since.  I say "death" because he was born in 1922 so would be a prodigious age if still with us.  I found an obit in the Sydney Morning Herald for his wife who died in 2018 where she was described of "wife of xxxx", i.e. not "wife of the late xxxx"... so just possibly he was still with us at that date.

I've not given his name for obvious reasons of discretion and privacy but would be grateful for general advice on how I might be able to find out what happened to him.  I have tried all the usual googling routes (which still throws up his wife's obit but nothing for him) but the NSW death indices are not open for searching recent deaths and I'm not sure what else I can try.  Unsurprisingly, he is not at the address or phone he had in 2004 and hasn't been for some years otherwise I would have tried calling or writing.

Hence a case of "any help gratefully received".

Think you mean wife died 2018😀  As he is over 100yrs old I think you can give his name.

Thanks Carole, I've re-read my post and I did say it was his wife who'd died in 2018 ... ?

His name is Alfred Glenton Preston (known as Glenton or just Glen), b. 10 Feb 1922 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.  He married a New Zealander, Bette, who, as I mentioned in my post, died in 2018.  Glenton was a civil engineer, specialising in bridges, awarded the M.B.E. in 1984.  They used to live at Clifton Gardens.

records  Alfred's Date of Death 4.8.2021 and Bette 16.10.2018

PRESTON Alfred Glenton born 10 February 1922; travelled per ARCADIA departing Tilbury on 11 March 1960 under the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme

Original passenger list on Ancestry also has Bette.

WW2 medals has him as captain Royal Engineers (as was my father!)

Wonderful - thanks Cass, and I see now what you were driving at: she did of course die in *2018* not 1918. Many thanks for finding me that reference - looks like Glenton has blown the family record for longevity wide open!

And thanks also Shume:  yes, I have that reference via my Ancestry sub.
