Title: Batchelor or Betrothed or something else??
Post by: LS48029 on Sunday 02 February 25 22:05 GMT (UK)
Would appreciate views on Marital Status of the lodger in this 1891 census from England. Could be bachelor (I can't find evidence of him marrying, he is entered as Unmarried in the 1881 census but living at the same address - with the same widow) but it could be be betrothed. Or it could be something else! He dies in 1893 without appearing to have married anyone in between 1891-3. Thoughts most welcomely received, thank you.

I agree with the other three that it’s batchelor.

I would flip through the following and the preceding pages and see if the word is applied anywhere else to other people.

The writing might be clearer in different instances,
