Title: Any Ship Broker records?
Post by: Olicana on Sunday 02 February 25 01:01 GMT (UK)
In 1880, William Forty Stephens was a Ship Broker, living in Pimlico.

Are there any records available for Ship Brokers which would help to provide more information about him?

I can see the baptism in December 1880 of William Charles Stephens. Address 67 Milton Street,  occupation of William Forty Stephens Ship Chandler.
And William Charles Is with Elen uncle & aunt at that address in 1881

Is the relevant birth William Charles ELEN , MMN ELEN

What does that certificate say about the father?

Re Brokers

But he might have just worked at a chandlers.

As he doesn’t seem to appear anywhere else, I can’t help wondering if Stephens is not his surname.

And

Good Morning
If we go with William Forty  of Bow  from Alice's baptism then we have a marriage 4.11.1885 St Saviours Brixton
William Forty 38  bach engineer Campbell Road Bow  Edward Gentleman
Louisa Barnett 32 spinster 6 Grosvenor Villas Brixton  Henry Newton dec ? weaver

1891 137 Balham Grove West Ham
William Forty 42 engineers clerk  Shatton Audley Oxford
Louisa 38 Stepney
Rosetta Pepper 19 servant Romford.

No sign of him 1871 and 1881 and before that he is with his parents Edward and Jane.

Rosina had a nother daughter
Edith Mary Elen 12.4.1879 bapt 14.7.1879 St Peter Eton Square

So it seems the couple had 4 children
Amy Rosina 1873,Alice Marian 1877 ,Edith Mary 1879 and William Charles 1880.

It seems strange William Forty was a bachelor at 38 and if he was why didn't he and Rosina get married ,unless I have the wrong chap.
