Looking for the father (and mother) of a McDonnell family in Co Antrim
The Will (with one Codicil) of John M'Donnell late of Cushendall County Antrim Ship Owner deceased who died 16 July 1876 at same place was proved at Belfast 28 Oct 1876 by the oath of James Delargy junior of Cushendall Innkeeper the Executor. Effects less than £3000
Using the will and other sources I was able to construct a tree as below -

There’s a tree on Ancestry that has Columbus McDonald (sic) b c 1831 Ireland, dying in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington USA in 1901. You may get his parents names from his death certificate.

As John McDonnell (or M'Donnell - watch for variations!) is variously a gentleman farmer, and ship owner, he should have substantial property, and one would expect his father to have had too.
Two addresses are mentioned: Gruig and Cushendall.
This suggests to me searching in Griffith's Valuation for John and/or his father. GV for Antrim was published in 1861.
e.g. in Gruig I see two McDonnells, Randal and Daniel - but neither has a house, and only small plots of land. Multiple McDonnells in Cushendall. Elsewhere in civil parish of Layd I see McDonnell and O'Neills sharing ownership of over 1,000 acres.

24th June 1834 - Randall McDonald holding corn mill and kiln in Cushendall - at roughly the time John was born.

I don't know. Most of the information for this tree comes from the will of John McDonnell 1876
In his will he left a legacy to 'John son of my brother Randal McDonnell'.

I saw that marriage. But if that is the right Randall, then John would have been very young to have been a widower at his later marriage?
