Title: 1861 & 71 census - VANSTONEs
Post by: arno on Wednesday 14 September 05 10:05 BST (UK)
Hi All

Could SKS try and find my VANSTONE family on the 1861 or 71 census.

In 1881  I have John VANSTONE aged 50 born Plymouth with wife
                         Mary aged 48 born Stonehouse

John was a plumber H M Dockyard.

Can't find their son John Francis born 1859 in Devonport on 1881 census?
Hoping he will turn up with his parents on 1861 / 71 census.

Any help much would be much appreciated.

Arno.

Nessie
Many thanks for your info.

I just wonder if I have the correct wife for John VANSTONE off the 1881 census?

The only info I'm sure of comes from the marriage cert of

John Francis VANSTONE 30 Sick Berth Steward at 69 Princes St,
father John Richard VANSTONE a Dockyardman
                         ----   married      ---
Alice Maude Edith HILL 22  ,same address ,
father John George HILL an Engineer

Married at the Parish Church St. Pauls Devonport on 4th October 1888.

Also on the 1901 Census - John F.       42 born in Devonport and
                                           Alice M. E.  34 born in Tavistock.

Could you just check on the census for a John Francis VANSTONE b1859
with a father John Richard VANSTONE b1831 ??

Somewhere in Devon?

John was also known as Francis !!

Many thanks Arno

Thankyou for the information above.

As my tagline says, I research military concert parties in WW1. Herbert performed with 1/4th SLI's concert party in 1917. He was commissioned into the Indian Army at the end of that year. His post war address was 1 Rockcliffe Road, Bath.

I complile information on concert troupes, and the perfromers, and am interested in doscovering more about Herbert.

Herbert Wallace Vanstone  is my Great Grand Uncle, being the son of G-G-Grandfather, Ascott James Vanstone.

Born in Bath 5th August 1882, death Bristol 1968.

As a byline, if anyone out there is researching Vanstone families - can I suggest a look at www.vanstoneweb.co.uk?
It's not my site, but has a wealth of information about Vanstone's!

I have previously found the marriage of HW Vanstone in December 1907, but I simply cannot find any mention of him in 1911, nor either of the potential brides!

Yes alli that is indeed te right man.

KGarrad

Nice to make contact with you, and thankyou for the link. I'll drop a line to Barbara on the site.

Do you have any further info on him? Would you like a scan of a concert programme listing his turns?

If so, please drop me a pm with your e-mail. I am loathe to post it here, not least because the original belongs to someone else who kindly sent me a scan after I gave a talk on the subject.

PM on the way!

Ascott James (or possibly Arscott James?) was born in St Helier, Jersey.
The family moved to Bath, where he met and married Sarah Eliza Rich, 4/4/1862.

Herbert Wallace was one of 8 children, including my G Grandmother, Ada Jane.

I found his WW1 papers some time ago, but the trail went cold.  ???
