Title: John Griffin
Post by: Scouse on Monday 27 January 25 20:26 GMT (UK)
I have my Grans 2nd husbands passport, stating he was born Galway Ireland 4th Mar 1886, that is all I have of his past, but a very confusing picture of his future. Thank you .
Yours in anticipation. Kind regards Alan.

DBM

What names are included on his death certificate?

Perhaps John was a second name?

Maybe S or SS might let the rest of us in on the secret?

As in, where is this information coming from? Where are the marriages, etc?

Wexflyer, why should there be any secrets?

The secret was where was the man? Where was marriage, etc.
Ireland?
US?
Australia or NZ?

I don't do divination. Thanks for enlightening us  - England.

Your reply #6 there
“ Quay ( or Ouay ) Lane Galway
Patrick Griffin d.o.b. 5th Mar 1886
Father Martin Griffin ( house carpenter )
Mother Margaret Griffin ( nee Donohoe )”

Dud you discount this one?

On the marriage certificate what was his father’s occupation?

My DBM was a genuine mistake I made so I deleted it. You can see one of the deleted posts under my query at 11.30am. I have no idea why the blaze of deletions of other people's posts. Perhaps a moderator did it?

DBM is short for deleted by me.

Also a note that people starting new threads when old threads exist seem to be hugely on the rise at the moment.  It has the potential to waste large amounts of time as we search for material that has already been provided.  The search function is not difficult, it just looks it as you have the option to include/exclude boards.  If you think you might have asked before just do a quick search under your user name or the people you are searching for.

Actually in terms of good genealogical practice we should be searching before posting our queries ...you never know someone may have already provided the answer to bash down our brick wall, being optimistic!!!

That couple did have a son named John Griffen, baptized 4/2/1881.
May be the John Griffin in Quay Lane, Galway in 1901 census, aged 18, or 22.

OP, did you notice that the elder Griffin siblings were born at West (Lower) village on Inisheer (Inis Oírr) in the Aran Islands.

Well it appears that we made more progress this time. Seems your ancestor is not the Patrick born March 1886, but John, born 1881.
