Hi all,
I am looking for the above named person but not having any look at all. Alexander was married in 1940 to Elsie Hams in Swindon Wiltshire but before this date i cannot find any record for him anywhere. I have his death in Lincoln Lincolnshire in 1980 and his date of birth is given as 28 August 1911 but that is all i know. I know i will most likely have to get his marriage certificate to find his dads name but i thought i would give you guys a shot first to see what you can come up with. Any help appreciated in advance x

Have you tried using that birthdate on the 1939 register?
Have you checked Scotlands People - several entries
There is an Alec Martin Sept qtr 1911 on freebmd
-
Hi Carole and thanks for your help.
Nothing shows up on the 1939 register under that date sadly.
I will check the Alec Martin out that you have found thankyou xx

Quite a few b Scotland 1911

Hi Carole
I have just purchased the digital copy of the birth of the above Alec Martin that you found for me and sadly it isnt the correct one, this Alec Martin was born 10 December 1908 but not registered until 8 July 1911 x
-
Unfortunately he was born after the 1911 census which won't help if he was b Scotland. Let's hope the marriage cert shows his father had a very unusual christian name🤞🤞

Who were the parents on the 1908/1911 cert mmn was Hemmings
-
Hi
The parents were Henry Martin and Ada Luetchford (formally Hemmings) address for both of them was 17 Ditton Mill Terrace, Long Ditton. Henry was a carpenter.
Ill try and upload it x

An outside chance if dates work.
There was an Alexander MARTIN born 28 August 1811 Kircaldy, Fifeshire. He was a Lance/Cpl in the Gordon Highlanders. If already in the Army he wouldn’t show up in the 1939 Register,
This man was taken POW in France 12 June 1940. As the marriage was in the March quarter it is just possible to have married before being sent to France.

Although the marriage was 1940 - I think a child was born 1938. Next child not born until 1943

As I said, it’s only an outside chance, it would depend if he had leave to marry before going overseas. But anything is worth investigating because sometimes the unlikely proves correct.

If the next child was born in 1943, how did this man manage it?
(Assuming he wasn’t released after capture?)

1940 marriage was in Wiltshire - as are all Martin/Hams births - 1938/43/46/47/48/51
No previous Martin/Hams marriages before 1938 - next one is 1953
If he was still a PoW after 1943 - sadly he wouldn't be the first man to come home & find another mans child in the household.
