Lawrence Byron Quirk according to his war record was listed as
BIRTH 26 MAY 1896 • Wanganui, New Zealand
on his New Zealand, World War I Service Records, 1914-1920 it says birth 26 May 1892.
I have searched births with no success
His mother was -Norma Marea Antonelli who married Patrick John Quirk 13 January 1904.
I cannot find Lawrence under many names no adoption from Antonelli to Quirk.
My DNA actually shows descendants of Patrick Quick's brother do not a match to me I do match with Norma's and Patrick's children
BUT I also connect with a William George SOMERVILLE who could be a possible father to Lawrence.
Any ideas of different birth dates and names I can use to approach this.
Many thanks
Linda

Have you used the wildcard approach? Explained here..
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=884193.0
Although I have to say I can’t see anything likely so far.
-
Yes have tried wildcard by first name last names / possible surnames every which way I think

Just to follow up re: name search / birth search ... I've also looked long and hard ... zilch, I'm afraid. :(
Re: the mother - Norma Marea/Maria ANTONELLI ... I note her death record (at cemetery) shows "born in NZ". Couldn't find her though ?? Did wonder if her son may have been born outside of NZ ?

This is a twisty one!
In terms of his age, when he first signed up in WWI in Sep 1914, he did give his birth as 1892.
However should be noted that the minimum age for the army at this time was 20. If he was born 26 May 1896, he was underage, so he might have adjusted his age to sign up.
There are some paperspast recorsd from April 1897 onwards of a Mdme Norma Antonelli (sometimes Madame, sometimes Miss), guitar soloist and vocalist, supposedly from Melbourne.

There doesn't seem to be any trace of this name in Australian papers that I can see.
Interestingly, there is also a Mrs Lawson, guitar soloist, mentioned in some newspapers at the same time, and this article has almost the same wording as above...
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/TS18970410.2.51?items_per_page=100&query=%22guitar+soloist%22&snippet=true&sort_by=byDA

- mentioned here a "Miss Norman Lawson" who is a student of Professor Swallow (other mentions at the time have her as Miss Norma Lawson but no mention of Prof Swallow)
Both her and her brother appear to have been for many years associated with Professor Swallow (Martin Swallow). He headed to Australia around 1890 and remained there for some time, but returned to NZ around 1903
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZFL19031024.2.2?end_date=31-12-1904&items_per_page=100&query=%22Martin+Swallow%22&snippet=true&sort_by=byDA&start_date=01-01-1902
and as Mrs Quirk she was still performing with Professor Swallow

Cheers ... but the name is certainly a far cry from "Norma Marea/Maria", hence my questioning. ;D
Like jorose, I'd also pondered over the Miss Norma Antonelli etc. who appears in newspaper reports .. so thanks to jorose's exceptional skills in connecting this with "Mrs Quirk". :)

Thanks everyone for your help. A few things to look at
But still no birth for Lawrence - Who appears to be my mothers birth father

Have you approached Sacred Heart to see if they have a record of his previous school?
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZH19041217.2.85?end_date=31-12-1904&items_per_page=10&phrase=2&query=Lawrence+quirk&snippet=true&start_date=01-01-1839
(I don’t see him on the NZSG school record data base - finally got in)

Not helping with Lawrence's birth, however there is this mention of a Ferdinand ANTONIA, a servant of Professor Martin SWALLOW in 1880. A possible connection?
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZH18800225.2.31
However there is this mention of the "mysterious Signor Antonelli" with Professor Martin SWALLOW in 1882
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/AS18820616.2.28
This review of the concert in 1882 implies that ANTONELLI was his valet, so probably Ferdinand?

Interesting character - Professor Martin SWALLOW. :)
eg this description (which also mentions ANTONELLI)

Ferdinand Antonelli is buried in the Old Te Kuiti Cemetery, aged 79.
Naturalised in 1913. Alien Records in 1917 give his birthplace as Italy, been in NZ 42 years, which is a bit out.
There is a marriage in 1869 for a Ferdinand ANTONELLI and a Emily BENNETT, which I guess is him and parents of Emily Frances who became Norma Maria.
