Jane Dayus (1827-1912) - spelling varies.
I'm looking for information about Jane Dayus's husband and parents.
Can anyone see anything in the church records (I live far away)?
1841 Census
Ann Dayus, 60, b.1781 Stoke St. Milborough (Mibbris?)
Sami Dayus, 25, b. 1816
Jane Dayus, 14, (1827-1912) Chelmarsh - 3x
Eliza Dayus, 9, August 5,1832. Mother: Mary, b.1810 c.
1851 - lived on the common in Chelmarsh
Ann, 75
Jane, 25, dressmaker
Louisa, 2, (1848-1922) Chelmarsh - 2x
Is Ann the mother of Jane? Is there a generation in between? Who is Ann's husband? ???
Jane's husband's name does not appear on any of the census from 1941 to 1911. Jane's children are: Louisa (=Thomas Morris), Thomas, Charlotte, Ann, Maria Beatrice.
Any help is much appreciated.
Best wishes,
Lesleyperry

1851 clearly shows Jane as daughter
1861 shows Jane as unmarried - GRO online has no mmn against the births - children were all illegitimate
Baptism of Eliza Dayus 5.8.1832 shows mother as Mary - no fathers name
-
- children were all illegitimate
As confirmed by pr for baptism of Maria Beatrice. Baseborn daughter of Jane Dayas, single woman
-
Hi,
Yes, that's true - Jane is listed as Ann's daughter, thank you. However, 45-50 years seems a rather large age gap.
1851: Chelmarsh Common
Ann Dayus (Clee), 75, wid= Edward dau 1. Elizabeth Dayus, Nov 12, 1802 (Stoke St. Milborough),
Jane Dayus, 25, daughter 3. dau 2. Mary Ann Dayus, April 16, 1807. "
Louisa Dayus, 2, granddaughter
1841
Ann, 60 = Edward Dayus
Jane, 14
Sami, 25
Eliza Dayus, 9, b. August 5, 1832, mother: Mary Dayus, b. 1810 c.
How do I find the father's name of Jane Dayus (1827-1912)?
How do I find the maiden name of Ann Dayus, b.1781 Stoke St. Milborough?
How do I find the name of Jane Dayus's husband/partner - all Jane's children were listed with her name (Dayus)?
Many thanks, Lesleyperry

Good Afternoon
Death for Jane at Bridnorth 1825 - Dec qtr 1912. Basically at St Mary's steps and then with daughter.
Here are the burials for Jane's parents
Edward Dayus 1771- 23.8.1840 Chelmarsh of Crateford
Ann 1774- 24.3.1857 at Chelmarsh of Bridgnorth.
These are the children I can see
Sarah 13.5.1801 - illeg child Louisa 31.1.1830
Elizabeth 12.11.1802
Mary Ann 26.4.1807 -illeg child Eliza 5.8.1832 father reputed to be Coley
George 27.9.1812 at Chelmarsh transcribed as Dawes
Ann 28.8.1816 Chelmarsh father labourer- 1851 servant Wolverhampton age 31?
Samuel 1816 ish from !841 census married 1842 Elizabeth Esther Taylor died 1847
Jane 28.5.1826 lab Crateford
And possible illegitimate child for Edward with Clara Williams of Ingram Lane -Edward 20.1.1833 Chelmarsh.
If you check Ann's baptiusm 28.12.1777 Stoke Milborough ( to John and Sarah Clee nee Bowen married 7.5.1773) she was 49 when she had Jane.
There is a Will at Hereford Archives for William Clee to son John 1778 which looks like the family.
The parishes to the south of Shropshire come under the Biushop of Hereford.
Ann Dayas marries 19.2.1801 to John Richards at Stoke Milborough and is the entry ynder Edward and Ann. Same S* witness.
There is a Shuggy Dayas d of Samuel and Elizabeth of Bancroft ,Diddlesbury baptised 10.3.1782 at Tugford which could be the right one.
She has a brother Edward baptised 6.6.1775.
other children Mary 2.5.1771 ,Elizabeth 22.4.1773,Anne 8.12.1777 ,Samuel 24.9.1780 and Samuel 7.3.1787.
The couple married at Wentnor 14.7.1770
Samuel Dayas signed and Elizabeth Braznor mark. He was from Diddlesbury.
wit Edward Reignolds and William Williams.
Not seeing a lot else .

Hi again all,
Re: Jane Dayus (1826-1912) - her common-law-husband, Charles Dayres, b. about 1824, Shropshire (guess) last name? Also, a second possible John Dayns as well.
Updated tree on Jane's parental related info. from this thread - so thankful.
Now I need to research Jane's common-law-husbands, Charles (and John). There is no marriage information, or a father listed on birth certificates for her five children.
However, four of the children married (including Louisa Dayres mmn 1848-1922, my ancestor).
Is anyone able to access the marriage certificates to see if anyone listed a father?
(As I write this, oh my gosh, I now see one of the Ancestry entries says John Dayns (Jane's mmn though, variant spelling). :o :o :o
1. Louisa Dayus (mmn) (1848-1922) = Thomas Morris (mine). Just seen a possible father as Charles Dayns (Jane/partner's mn)? :o :o :o

Maybe I answered my own question, but just in case anyone can see anything about John, his last name?, I post this post.
Best wishes,
Lesleyperry.

It is entirely possible every child had a different father.
As none have a father named at baptism you cannot be sure that if they did name a father at marriage, that they didn’t make it up. Especially if they give him the surname Dayus.
I think if jane had a man living in for a few years the baptism would have some mention of him.
As my father would have said “He kept his hat on”.
PS…you’ve put 19 instead of 18 in those birth years.

Corrected birth entries from 1900s. Thxs. :)

Re: Charles Morris, b. 1826, Shropshire.
Charles Morris b. 1826, Shropshire, on the 1841 census in Chelmarsh, with Thomas Morris, b. 1816 Shropshire (town not specified), Mason.
Is anyone able to find any family for these two? ??? I'm assuming they are brothers at the moment. ???
This is in connection to finding the (first) common-law-husband of Jane Dayus (3x gg), father of Louisa Morris (Dayus, mmn) (2x gg).
1841, in Chelmarsh.
Jane Dayus (1826-1912), 25
Louisa Morris (Dayus, mmn) 1848-1922, 2
Ann Dayus (Clee) (1877-1957), 60s
Eliza Dayus (mmn) b.1932, 9, Ann's grandaughter, of Sarah Dayus (Gorton) b. 1801.
Possibly, coincidently, Louisa eventually married Thomas Morris (1852-1921), Worfield, Shropshire, parents: John Morris/Elizabeth Barker.
Louisa Dayus/Thomas Morris marriage:1875, Bridgnorth (see above replies), living in Quatford at that time. Louisa lists her father as Charles Dayns (mmn, various spellings), Stone Mason (see above replies).
As always, thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Thomas b. 1816 Shropshire and Charles Morris b. 1826 Shropshire living in Chelmarsh, Shropshire in 1841.
1.There is a Thomas Morris married Elizabeth Elcock June 16, 1841 in Chelmarsh. Looking for Thomas Morris's father's name.
They are living in Chelmarsh in 1851 (see below) and assuming Thomas is the same person. ???
2. Charles Morris b. 1826, if he is Thomas's relation, might have been born in Cleobury Mortimer too.
My theory is that Charles Morris b. 1826 died around 1849-1850. I don't see Charles Morris b. 1826 on the 1851 census.
Which would be one reason why he (Charles Morris b.1826) didn't marry Jane Dayus (Louisa Dayus b.1848, Charles's daughter? - my 3x/2x), if he is indeed the father of Louis Morris (Dayus) b. 1848 - same married name (all speculative at this time). :-\
Looking for Charles Morris's birth and death certificates (to trace this family). ??? ???
Morris/Elcock family are on Ingrams Lane in Chelmarsh. Jane's father was over on Ingrams Lane (Edward Dayus) in the past, still to be researched (see above, Clara Wiliiams, son Edward Williams, b. 1833).
Thomas's profession mason, bricklayer ties in with Louisa's later marriage certificate where her father Charles Dayns mmn is listed as a stone mason.
I would eventually like to find a DNA connection. Still a little ahead of myself here though.

Hi
I'm not getting a definite connection between Thomas Morris born 1816 and Charles 1826 but here's what I have.
Thomas married Elizabeth Elcock ,father Edward.I've just got the transcript not the whole thing)
So baptism 2.2.1812 Cleobury Mortimer s of Edward and Ann Morris
Siblings -Edward 27.7.1806 Hopton Wafer ,Anne 13.5.1808 CM,James 12.6.1814.
Edward buried 1787-8.3.1818 Cleonbury Mortimer.
Possible parents for Edward -Edward and Hannah Morris who had children at Cleobury Mortimer Sarah 15 .3.1785, and John 14.5.1788.
Edward married Hannah Haughton 22.10.1782 at Bayton Worcestershire.
John could be Charles's father.
Charles Morris born1826 bapt 10.3.1824 at Cleobury Mortimer s of John and Maria Morris carpenter.
Siblings John born 25.6.1826 and George born 9.6.1828 and died 1828.
Maria buried 24.3.1829 age 28 at Cleobury Mortimer of Lindridge.
John remarried Margaret Kirk 5.8.1830 at Kimbolton
children
Edwin 31.10.1830 Kimbolton,Josiah 6.9.1835 CM,James 1837 CM ,William 21.8.1842 CM,Henry June 1845 and Robert 10.6.1851 Lower St Carpenter.
The 1851 census has them in Lower St CMortimer born 1787 and 1813.
So John could be the one son of Edward and Hannah Morris.Which would make Thomas and Charles first cousins.
Son Charles Morris is not with the family on the 1841 or 1851 census.
That's all I have.

Thanks! Much appreciated.
I will look at your information! :-\
To me, it's looking hopeful that Charles Morris 1826 Shropshire, located in Chelmarsh in 1841, is long lost 3xgg. :)
Based on:
1.Charles Morris 1826 location (Chelmarsh) - and no other Charles candidates thereabouts.
2.The later marriage certificate for (speculative) daughter, 1875 Thomas Morris (same last name, coincidently) = Louisa Dayus (mmn), specifying Charles Dayns (mmn), Mason.
Charles Morris 1816, his relative, Thomas Morris 1816, with whom Charles is living in Chelmarsh, lists Mason 1841, Bricklayer 1851.
3. A (speculative) early demise for Charles Morris 1826 (sadly), suggesting a valid reason (which breaks a typical childbirth to marriage pattern) for a discontinued relationship with Jane Dayus (1826-1912).

Re: Charles Morris b. 1826 (1824), age 15, Shropshire 1841, General Laborer - candidate for 3x gg.
Sorting through the details for clarification. No DNA match yet.
1.Charles Morris has these two documents on Ancestry:
A.
Name John Morris
Spouse Maria Morris
Child Charles Morris
and:
B.
Name Charles Morris
Gender Male
Baptism Date 11 Apr 1824
Baptism Place Cleobury-Mortimer, Shropshire, England
Father John Morris
Mother Maria
FHL Film Number 1657548
Reference ID Page 63 #499
Is there a marriage certificate for John Morris = Maria, m. 1800ish. ??? If so, where can I find it? ???
What's Maria's last name? ???
There were three sons (for John Morris = Maria), Charles Morris b.1824 (above), John Morris b.1826 and George, died young (see above). John Morris b. 1826 appears on the 1851 but not with family.
Trying to also identify this brother, John Morris b. 1826 on the 1861. ??? There are many young people with that name (John Morris b. 1826) and no exact birthplace match (Cleobury Mortimer) as far as I can see.
2.
John Morris
Gender Male
Baptism Date 30 Dec 1787
Baptism Place Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire, England
Father John Morris
Mother Mary
FHL Film Number 162094
This birth may be for John Morris (Charles's dad) with Charles's grandparents John Morris = Mary.
Is there a marriage certificate for John Morris = Mary around the 1780s. ??? If so, where can I find it? ??? What's Mary's last name? ???
Charles Morris was quite possibly born in Cleobury Mortimer because his relative (they're together) on the 1841, Thomas Morris b. 1816, 25, Shropshire, Mason/Bricklayer, reappears on the 1851 with that birthplace.
The profession Mason/Bricklayer matches information from a later marriage certlficate (for possibly Charles's daughter, Louisa Dayus mmn, = Thomas Morris (1852-1912); husband not directly related).
Mother (Jane Dayus 1826-1912) and daughter (Louisa) lived close by, all in Chelmarsh 1840s/50s.
There are other questions relating to Thomas Morris (1816) too, but this is a start.
Tricky search this! ;)
Comments/suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
L

Now researching this family for Charles Morris, b. March 16, 1824, age 15, Cleobury Mortimer, w/Thomas Morris, age 25, 1841 census, relationship undetermined.
This is to confirm Charles as Jane's husband, of the original post - 3x ggs. ???
1. Charles Morris's father could be:
John Morris c. Dec 30, 1787 = Maria (of Lindridge, above), m: 1822 abt. Maria's death 1829.
Charles Morris's siblings: John Morris c. 1826 (to locate in 1861 ???), George Morris c. 1828, infant death.
John Morris 1787 remarried to Margaret Kirk, Aug 1830 • Kimbolton, Hereford. Several children: Edwin, Josiah, James, William, Henry, Robert.
2.John Morris 1787, John's siblings could be:
Mary Morris c. April 16, 1786
Will Morris c. Feb 17, 1790.
3.Charles Morris's grandfather could be:
John Morris, b. abt. 1750 = Mary Williams, b. abt. 1750, m. Nov 13, 1785, Cleobury Mortimer, living in Kinlett. Issue: John, Mary and Will above.
Researching with an aim for a DNA match to Charles's father, John Morris. :)
