Good morning
Having recently undergone major abdominal surgery I’ve decided to as part of my recovery time to get back to my research into my family history. With work I don’t get the time which is so frustrating.
Successful day yesterday but I have hit a snag - Joseph Evans, father of Samuel (1802) and husband of Mary - I think. What who was Mary cannot locate maiden name or record of marriage, and what of his parents?
Joseph was my 4th Great Grandfather. Toddington seems to be the epicentre of my Evans family, keen to find out how far I can go back and what connections there still may be in the village.
Any assistance would be very kind and much appreciated.
Thank you
Mark

Have you checked the GRO Birth Index for children of Samuel and his wife?? It gives mothers maiden name -
Based on the 1851 census was this the birth of their son Joseph from the index ?
EVANS, JOSEPH mothers maiden name ODELL
GRO Reference: 1846 S Quarter in WOBURN UNION Volume 06 Page 123
And possible couples marriage??

Thanks Kay.
I may be getting confused, I understood from the marriage records that Samuel married Mary Odell in 1843 and in that record it records Joseph as his father. John is listed as father to Mary.
Samuel’s baptism 25 April 1802 advises a Joseph and Mary as his parents. There are a few Mary’s.
But perhaps I’m reading it incorrectly

The marriage is a transcription and does list Samuel's father as Joseph and Samuel's bride as Mary Odell - no mention of a John
Is this Samuel and family in 1841 living in Square, Toddington?? Then it looks like he was widower when he married and the children were from his first wife

Thanks everyone really appreciate this information. I think we now know Mary was Mary Hart and her father was John Hart.
You are all amazing - you should all do workshops for uninitiated. Hopefully adding this information will provide some insights to Joseph.
