My friends father: Ernest Rookes born 5th December 1919 in Barnsley England.
However family thinks he listed 13th December 1920 so possible he faked his date of birth to enter military early.
We do not know his parents names. And I can't seem to find him on 1921 census.
We know he went on to serve in the army. He was in the transport core for 2 years and went on to be a paratrooper for 4 years.
He was living in Northern Ireland after the 2nd World War.
He died 25th May 1995 and is buried in Carmoney Cemetary (East) in Newtownabbey.
It's a long shot... there are not many Rookes so I am hoping anyone with experience can help in this search or point in right direction.
Wanting to confirm date of birth and parents names. Any help is appreciated.

Do you know who he married? There is an Ernest ROOK (aged 24, Royal Air Force) who married 27 June 1942 at Handsworth, father Samuel James ROOK.
This Ernest was born 18 March 1918 and baptised 31 March 1918 (parents Samuel James and Ada) at St John, Park, Sheffield.

Maybe not ... looks like Ernest ROOK born 18 March 1918 death registered at Blyth, Suffolk in 1980.

No use for Ernest, but birth of Mary Grainger at 23 Ohio street, so lived there her whole life ?? Until the 1950s as Mary Rookes anyway.
Died 1974, Newtownabbey?

There is a positive search result for a record of marriage on GRONI in 1942 for both names Ernest ROOKES and Mary GRAINGER. If this is the correct couple you will need to purchase some credits to look at the marriage for his father's details.
There is this illegitimate birth, if he was born in December then the birth would often not be registered until the first quarter of the following year.
ROOKE, ERNEST STANLEY

Looks very good Dundee.
Am annoyed I missed that birth!

Thanks very much guys. Yes married Mary Grainger 8th July 1842 in St Matthews Church in Belfast. I got this from the Marriage Licience. But no mention of fathers. Would there be a separate marriage cert with this on it?
On the marriage licence his address was given as 183 Field Ambulance, H.Q. Marythan Hall, Rolvenden, Cranbrook, Kent.
As he is military is there any records pre marriage that may give next of kin?
Amazing work Dundee Debra on birth cert good lead. Why would mothers maiden name not be listed? How would I get a copy of this?

No maiden name implies, as Dundee said, that it was an illegitimate birth.
You can order through the GRO. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

using the search bring up the birth as posted.

Births are normally indexed under the father's surname, with mother's maiden name also on the Birth Record/Certificate.
When there is an illegitimate birth the birth is indexed under the mother's name, and the mother's maiden name is left blank. Or indicated by a dash.

I managed to locate the birth record and got a digital copy.
Ernest Stanley Rooke born 13th December 1920
Mother listed as Ruth Rooke (Domestic) from Hemswell Lincolnshire.
Looking in 1921 Census I have located Ruth Rooke as a Servant without her child she is only 18 so was 17 when she had Ernest.
I have learnt from Ernest's Son that his father moved to Northern Ireland with a friend after the 2nd World War as he believed he was an Orphan and had no one to go home to. I suspect. as his mother was young, unmarried and in service she gave Ernest up and he ended up in care. Ernest believed he was from Barnsley in Yorkshire so it is possible he ended up in a carehome/orphanage there.

But he married in 1942. So where (and when) did Maria and he meet?

It looks like Ruth ROOKE married Cyril W OGLESBY in 1923 registered at Gainsborough. They are in Doncaster, West Riding in 1939.
Modified to add:
I can't see the full article - there is an obituary for Cyril Wray OGLESBY in 1978, mentions he was from Hemsworth, as was his wife.

I hope you eventually can get his ww2 file.
It would be very interesting to know who he named as next of kin.
