Hi, I hope someone can help.
In his book" Yorkshire in the reign of Elizabeth 1 " John Rushton states on p 141, Sir Ralph Bigod gave husbandman Thomas Hardy his long standing tenant of the manor place and 24 oxgangs at Bainton licence to enclose or dike the desmesne lands in 1531. I am trying to finding out more about Sir Ralph and his connection to Bainton but can't find a connection, other than stated in John Rushdens text. Any ideas ? Thanks.

there's a Ralph who died in Settrington who fits in the time line.

Sir Ralph Bigod had a second son Ralph, but his heir was his grandson Francis, son of Sir Ralph's elder son John.

Sir Ralph died in 1515. His grandson Francis Bigod had extensive landholdings in the East Riding, including in Settrington, Birdsall, Bainton, Hunmanby, Lockington, Duggleby and Malton.

From what I see Sir Ralph bequeathed his holdings (1515 or 6 Hen 8) to his grandson Francis who committed treason and was executed. Later the holdings were restored to Francis' son Ralph?
