Title: William Till, Ipswich, St. Helen's parish
Post by: windy_miller on Wednesday 01 January 25 17:42 GMT (UK)
I was wondering if anyone can furnish me with info on a William Till, miller, who was working a mill in St. Helen's between 1761 and 1762.  It appears he might have been a tenant miller, or may was going bankrupt as the mill was advertised for sale in the Ipswich Journal.

Any info would be good (birth/death & marriage), or anything that might point to which mill he was working.

Thanks in advance,
Windy

What I do know is that it was a Smock mill and it stood in St. Margaret's parish, and that there might have been a connection with a Mr. Richard Dave, also from Ipswich.

I gather you've seen the Ipswich Journal of 13 June but perhaps not 10 Oct. 1761 (p. 3 col. 2) with a notice dated 25 Sept. by Eliz. Dennis about the miller William Till. He was then a prisoner at Chelmsford, charged by her as a debtor, formerly of Ipswich and lately of Danbury in Essex.

Yes, thanks.

He does seem to have been in Suffolk very long, and I assume was not a very successful miller, though a William Till (miller) did reappear at Stutton Mills near Brantham in about 1810s.
