Title: John Leghorn.
Post by: Rayjamgor on Friday 13 December 24 15:44 GMT (UK)
I have a John Leghorn dying aged 51 in Glasgow UK in 1878. His daughters marriage lines say he's an army pensioner. The 1881 census has wife Ellen born Ireland, daughter Ann in East India Bangalore 1864 and Mary in England 1869. Am I right then in thinking he was a soldier in India ?

that would seem most likely as that was a garrison town.

This is probably the John Leghorn(e) who served in the 66th Regiment of Foot (number 640) from 1860 to 1868, and had previously served for 12 years with 44th Foot (2983).  What's left of his army file doesn't mention wife or children but that's not unusual for that era. Born Kilwin, Cloness, Monaghan, Ireland.
