Title: Looking for the parents of Levi Callear (b. ~1812)
Post by: SiCallear on Sunday 08 December 24 20:56 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Trying to connect Levi and his descendents to my main Callear family tree but can't find his parents.

What I do know, is that he:

- married in June 1831 to a Frances "Fanny"
- Levi, George, Margaret, Elizabeth, Joseph
- Earliest census sighting is 1851 living Chapel Street, West Bromwich, Staffordshire (occupation: coal miner)

Any help would be very much appreciated  :D

Can you please post either the 1851 reference or full details of the entry

There's a fairly unsubstantiated tree on Ancestry which suggests his parents are this couple

Joseph Calloear
Margaret Williams
Marriage    18 Feb 1812     Wolverhampton, St Peter,
Religion    Anglican

I can find no obvious baptisms to them. It has some appeal given the names of two of Levi's children

On Ancestry, the 1851 census record is under Levi Gallier/Levis Gallier. REF: H0107/2026

Does the "unsubstantiated tree" go back further than Joseph and Margaret?

No - and to demonstrate the standard of the trees (several, that look to have copied from each other) they confidently state that Joseph was born Staffordshire and quote a date of birth taken from a non conformist baptism in Devon, as well as adding an 1841 census for Margaret, but under the surname Williams

Levi Gallear was buried Bloxwich on 26 February 1869 age 60. (born circa 1809)
Ref: FindMyPast

1851 and 1861 under Gallear he was a Coal Miner born Penn Staffordshire.

When he married Frances Archer by Banns 15 August 1831 at Rugeley, he was of Wolverhampton, Frances was of Rugeley.

If they followed naming patterns then Levi's father's name was Joseph, and Frances mother was Margaret

Children of Levi and Frances

Joseph Gallear bap 31 October 1831 St Peter Wolverhampton parents Levi and Frances
Margaret Callear bap. 2 December 1832 Wolverhampton           parents Levi and Frances
Elizabeth  Gallear/Gallier bap 7 September 1835 Wolverhampton        ditto

GRO registration
Levi Callear reg 1842 Wolverhampton with mmn ARCHER

census 1851 and 1861
George born circa 1843/4

There is a gap between 1835 and 1842 so possibly more children

Something else to mull over.
On the censuses for Wolverhampton
Alphonso and Racheal Callear  collier born in Wellington Shropshire They marries 28.10.1805 at Wellington .She was Rachel Chilton.
Alphonso bapt 16.9.1787 Wellington All saints s of Phillip and Elizabeth.
In 1841 they have children Levi 20 ,Alphonso 15 ,Rachel 14 and Hannah 12.

Could there be a connection there.
Phillip and Elizabeth at Wellington
Jane 9.6.1768
Elizabeth 17.11.1769
Phillis 17.9.1776
Thomas 24.1.1779
Phillip 29.10.1780
Ann 10.2.1782
Alphonso 16.9.1787

Nice big gap 1769-1776 for Joseph .

I have Phillip and Elizabeth on my tree. It would make life easy to connect them to Levi but how?

I also have Alphonso and Rachel - their son Levi is a different Levi to the one I am currently trying to connect.

Someone has requested pictures of Some Callear graves in west bromwich all saints and there was a couple of requests for Heath Lane cemetery,it may be worth keeping your eye open for them being fullfilled.Think someone has claimed the requests. May be some info may come up which helps. When some claims the request it is that they think they can do it within 14 days.

Hi and thanks for the info.

I suspect those are photo requests that I made approx 1-2 months ago. Great news is photos are potentially coming - look forward to those.
