I have a place of birth on a birth certificate in 1930 as 1 Homelands Lower Road, Bemerton, MD.
Can anyone shed any light on this address and what does the MD stand for? Registration district is Salisbury. Many Thanks

Could it be R D - rural district?
Searching brings this site up which looks useful

Added - sorry for some reason the first link doesn't work so will try posting the long link https://www.google.com/maps/@51.0722374,-1.8192623,3a,75y,344.74h,86.71t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s6HZK2MEmoUb3oVlNBPGKfQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D3.293060043351147%26panoid%3D6HZK2MEmoUb3oVlNBPGKfQ%26yaw%3D344.7400246248645!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTIwNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Thank you.

It shows as M.D. at the end of the address. Would this have been a Medical Doctor's premises in 1930? The father of the baby born there was a Doctor RAMC with address as the
Experimental Station Porton, Salisbury

Might it be something to do with Fanny Phelps, the occupant, being a Midwife - e.g. Maternity ….
I can only think of ‘Maternity Department’ but it seems to have been a private house.
If it follows the address, you would think it is relevant to the address, rather than a person.
The previously linked article mentions her being there in 1925 and the Midwives roll shows her there in 1931.
Could it be a badly written ‘U’ for Urban District, if it follows the word ‘Bemerton’.

Wondered whether it might be Municipal District with Municipal being used as another word for Urban :-\

Thank you. Having another look I think it is a U so Urban District makes sense. Thanks for the background on the premises/midwife.
