Amongst a small collection of coins that has been passed through the family i came across the pictured silver three pence piece. As you can see it looks to have a star shape stamped into it. At first i thought it may be the work of a previous keeper, however i found a similar on being offered for sale on E-Bay. Just wondering if anyone has seen such an example and knows what it might be. It is dated 1902.

Some general info, but the specific star shape is not explained:

Thanks Tony
It looks like is may have had a stone or such like set in to it at some point. if so, I'm curious as to what purpose.

If it's 16mm diameter, it could be Maunday Money?
If the coin has a large (for the coin) "4" on the tails side, then it is Maunday Money.

Thank you. It is about 16mm Dia and definitely a 3 pence. But was wondering about the significance of the apparent star shaped stone mount.

Could it have been marked by this stamp for use in British colony or dependency. A temporary measure if they were short of coins.
