I have William Cash birth record in Birmingham at about 1800 - parents listed as William and Jamima.
I cannot find a record of a William and Jamima marriage.
I have another James Cash born 1803 Birmingham - parents listed as William and Thomasina.
I have the marriage for this couple in 1799.
My question is James was a convict arriving in Australia about 1830 and his record states he has a brother William who arrived approx 6 years earlier. James arrived on the Florentina.
The above record is the only William I can find who is also a convict arriving in approx 1824. William arrived on the Royal Charlotte.
Is it simply a wrongly written mother or ?? for William.
I also cannot find a definite William after he was given his freedom in 1839. There are 2 death records for 1845 with insufficient details.
Does anyone have any ideas.

There were no birth records until the onset of Civil Registration in 1837?
I suspect what you have are baptisms.

The baptism of William Cash 27 Aug 1804 born 31 …….. can’t read. Transcribers seem to have interpreted it as an 1800 date.
Anyway, an observation , there are 41 baptisms recorded on that day. Room for error. But it does say Jamima.

Agreed it does states Jamima quite clearly.
Do you think there is a possibility the priest got it wrong? James was baptized in the same place. This is the main reason why I think it is James' brother.
I've just found a few more court records which give his birth back to 1796. It seems to change a lot!

Whilst I appreciate the reminder, most would pass it by without comment.

James’ certificate of freedom record says he is a native of Devonshire
Does another record say he was from Birmingham?
Added.. Devon is a long way from Stafford where he was convicted,
Also added. I see another record says his native place is “at sea” !!

His place of conviction was Warwickshire. Majority of documents have this. I can't explain why it states Devonshire and I've always wondered about it.
An earlier ticket of leave states his place of origin was "at sea".
The more I look into this pair the more differences I pick up. Only 1 record of James mentions William coming about 6 years earlier. The only thing I haven't looked up is if he had a different surname.

James’ place of conviction seems consistently recorded as the Stafford Assizes. A bit of variance in date, but always March 1830.
It does seem very convenient that there is a William Cash who arrives in 1824, and it wouldn’t be difficult to get from Birmingham to Stafford by Canal.
The hulk description book on FindMyPast says James was born in the City of Durham!
This record is a petition, with references, by James’ widowed mother Ann to commute the death sentence.

But…
James is “connected with Birmingham thieves”

On one record from 1830, James' age is recorded as 23, so born a little later than the James mentioned in the first post.

I can't seem to access those records. I found another site https://www.genguide.co.uk/source/calendars-of-prisoners-crime-criminals/
This indicates under one of the lists available a William Cash was caught in the Handsworth area of Birmingham in 1823 at the age of 22. This looks as if it is him.
The Staffordshire Advertiser has an item on the 8 Mar 1823 that mentions a William Cash. I can't access the details. This also looks like it is him.
Nothing for James.

I think you can take out a 1 month sub on FindMyPast.
There are a number of items relating to James. And there is more than one James.
Similarly I think there are several Williams. I can see at least two of about the same age, sentenced at different assizes and to transportation.
You need to go through them with a fine tooth comb.
(The newspapers are available on FindMyPast too)
Added..there is even a William & James Cash appearing together at Chester for house breaking.
